The inconceivable thing is that this conspiracy exists within the Church, that there are bishops and even cardinals, and many priests and religious, who play the role of Judas. That such a “fifth column” exists is not merely my unauthoritative private opinion; on the contrary, a number of cardinals, bishops, and prelates have declared in private conversations that no one who is not blind can overlook this incredibly tightly organized “fifth column” within the Church. Of course the number of religious who belong to this “fifth column” may be comparatively small, but they have a clear aim, coupled with the kind of intelligence that one finds in all Soviet and Chinese embassies, which should be more precisely characterized as slyness and cunning, to distinguish it from true intelligence.
It must be emphasized from the outset, however, that the destruction of the Church is being sought from two completely different motives. In one case it is the conspiracy which has existed at all times to undermine the Faith and destroy the Church, with the sole difference that those involved do not want to undermine the Church from without, but rather from within. This is precisely the system of the “fifth column.” People who pretend to be Catholics, who assume offices in the Church, are seeking from within, under the banner of reform and progress, to destroy the Church.
Completely different from these people are those who do not want to destroy the Church as such, i.e., who do not seek the disappearance of the Church, but who rather want to transform the Church into something which completely contradicts her meaning and essence. This includes all those who wish to make the Church of Jesus Christ into a purely humanitarian society, to rob her of her supernatural character, to secularize and desacralize her. They share that camouflage of the enemies of the Church which comes from using the shibboleths of “reform,” “progress,” and “adaptation to modern man.” But they do not want to eliminate the Church. The catchwords “reform” and “progress” are not mere tricks which they use; they really believe them.
The result of the activity of this group is the same as that of the first group; only their motives are different. This latter group would vehemently protest if one were to accuse them of intending the destruction of the Church. But they have lost the true Christian Faith to such an extent that they do not clearly understand that the secularized, humanitarian organization which they want to make out of the holy Church would have nothing left in common with the Church of Jesus Christ. They do not see that if they were to reach their goal, it would amount to the destruction of the Church.
Henri de Lubac, S.J., pointed this out with forceful and penetrating words:
“One becomes conscious that the Church is confronted with a grave crisis. In the name of a “new” Church, a “post-conciliar” Church, some people are attempting to found another Church than that of Jesus Christ: an anthropocentric society, which is threatened by an ‘immanentist apostasy,’ and which can be drawn into a movement of general surrender under the cloak of rejuvenation, ecumenism, or adaptation.”

Work flow ebbs from necessity, but the Lord’s work must always be done.
Is it right to overdo the justice of which man speaks? In works of piety and charity we must be certain it is never overdone. God has already chosen you, and you are of his ilk. What of the men that stray from the pack? To them our house may seem like a palace that bears fruit rich and ripe — they want a taste, so they must be let in. Do they realize the sanctification all the holy bodies who live there is what bears the fruit so ripe? Do we bribe men in with ill thoughts of rotten fruit, or do we bear our fruits proudly?
Neither is the accurate, as your soul also knew. Humility richens with moderation. Certainly there is no chance of a humble lifestyle if one should boast of its merits! These men would turn away from soggy fruits, disgusted by its squelch. We mustn’t favor what is over ripened to that which is rotten, as they are both displeasing in the eyes of God. Oh, but we want those men in our garden! Let them come in! If they are drawn to God by our perfectly ripened fruits, then it is from temperance we will draw our nutrition. To be humble means to accept His praise justly! If He shows us we should rejoice, then in our merits we will remain. He loves the good sheep, because the good sheep loves Him; His goats are the ones that do not listen, do not obey, and not revere Him in the highest. Fruits that are oversaturated in blasphemy, now that is a sickly vine! Black and rotten and twisted, the Lord should most certainly cast them away so He doesn’t have to watch it decay. It is displeasing to watch a flower we planted ourselves wither away from the toxins it pulled from the ground. When the harvest came, we would toss the ugly ones out and cherish the beautiful ones! If only knew they knew the grace of the garden of life that is renewed again and again by its Creator, who loves every plant He planted. Maybe then they would not fear the rotting in their roots, but beg to be made new again, like all the other beautiful trees. We only have one chance at this - should we watch as we rot and wither away, or beg the Lord for another shot?
The vine grows slowly, thickly, and deeply. Twisting and turning, it sticks its claws into wounds of the flesh, made real by our spiritual eyes. What, then, are the obvious turning points? Was it sin, in favor of the body’s desires? Or was it real spiritual neglect, made possible by laziness? Trees grow slowly. The rot may only begin to cease when the new life spreads more and more every day. How easy it can be to neglect these spiritual duties and allow the rot to kick in! To be fastidious is to accelerate the new growth; to be lazy is to let it take back over. I cannot imagine anything more offensive to the Lord than watching His new life still, day by day, making no progress and faltering none, ceasing its excitements and losing its vigor to continue the path it yearns to grow on. The rot becomes relaxed and enjoys its new settlement, as it can leech off the hopes and promises of life. It wants to go back to the way things were, when it was devouring the tree and the tree didn’t know the difference. This is the gray area. This is the middle. What does it mean to righteous, and what does it mean to be left behind? The darkness knows nothing of the light. They are not equal. Darkness ceases to exist in God’s perfect garden.
We should hate our rot. We should not witness its decay in fear, but be active in its dilution. There are many days when we get tired, but we cannot stop growing. There are ways to rest the spiritual soul — in prayer, mostly — but we must not take action to cease the suffering of our own contentedness. The flesh is not true, and it is only mortal. There will be a day when the life on which it depends will leave its vessel, and the corpse will drop dead to decay. Our souls fall down in a similar fashion if the tree was not fit for fruitful life. Examination of ones own life is the only way to compromise the spirit and the flesh. We must rest, and we must eat, and we must exercise. But what was too much, and what was there not enough of? These contemplations truly make the vessel a perfect place for a soul. Perhaps, one day, the pains of the flesh will be released and our souls will be recompensed.
Tune your mind to questions of morality and piety. Does this disturb you? Does it anger you? Are you invigorated by a burst of fiery hate? Perhaps you are heavy with fruit, and need to be picked clean. Perhaps you have no fruit at all, or fear to imagine the dead branches. Maybe you are just budding, and your branches reach for this new and exciting light. Have you noticed any other trees around you, or is the only thing near a pungent odor filling your space? Does it reek? Does the rot leech through roots, deep and unseen? Rest your soul in prayer; only God can put new life in old branches. There is a trial awaiting those who try share their new life with death. Awaken the dead trees by the light of your prayer, and blend in with their temporary needs. God has chosen you as his foal, and soon He will ride you to the rich soils of Heaven.

Isabel Flores de Oliva was born in 1586 in Lima, Peru She received her nickname, Rose, from an account that at her birth a servant saw her face turn into a rose. She spent much of her young life praying, giving penance, and fasting. Her parents wanted her to marry, but she took no interest in it and would cut her hair and smother pepper in her face so suitors would leave her alone.
She would take care of the sick and poor, and sold flowers in the marketplace to support her family. Her parents forbade her of becoming a nun, so she joined the Third Order of Saint Dominic and received her habit tertiary and took a vow of perpetual virginity. She died at the young age of 31, in 1617. On the 200 soles bill, is depicted an image of Saint Rose.

Today, I am thankful to society for being openly accommodating to handicapped people
For those of you who don’t know, after a series of illness, pains, and procedures, doctors were finally able to remove my gallbladder on May 2nd. I was sent home and am healing fine.
Yesterday, May 4th, I chose to go to the grocery store, and used a motorized cart as I shopped. I also chose to bring a walker with me to the movie theater. On both occasions, there was plenty of space, accommodations, and kind smiles. No one asked me questions like I had feared. Not once did I have to answer questions about my recovery, or point out my stitches. What I did encounter were groups of friends reminding their peers to be courteous of wheelchair ramps and walking space. I saw young children reminding their parents to be patient and polite. Employees, groups, families and individuals all stayed true to their roles... and it felt completely normal. I am afraid to admit that once or twice I felt out of place and afraid, and one snarky comment struck pain in my heart, but all that can be said of jerks is that ignorance is shameful.
I can only imagine the bullying that a truly handicapped individual might catch wind of, and I am more so thankful to God that the kind nature born into us is nurtured to our extent. Even in our busiest communities, we are kind, and we are helping each other, as a background thought of our first nature. As a group, we've laid the foundation of a step that raises the unfortunate to a place of common grace. Every day, though we don’t always realize, we are building that staircase, one step at a time.
