By the way, now I'm actually done with the demo so far, and I love it (I just chose to send my bug report first in a separate ask). I really like the worldbuilding and I'm interested to see more of it. Usually, when you see a story with that kind of premise, it's either a full on high fantasy with swords and magic, or a supernatural story set today (or an equivalent of nowadays in a different world). It's really interesting to see that kind of "in-between" sort of time period, when guns and radios already exist, but it's till not as advanced as our world.
I admire the fact we have multiple paths in this, and that they are quite significant! I actually expected killing the dragon to be mandatory, so I was surprised we could not only spare it, but ALSO have two branches on that path depending on how we treat it.
Very excited to see more of Jules too! The one scene with him so far and the fallout of it if the MC tells their mother the truth were quite intriguing.
Also, I have a small question! Normally, when possible, I pick my character's name / surname from a suggestion list to make it "more canon". It's obviously even easier when there's only one name suggestion like in this game. But when there's only one suggestion, sometimes picking it has some specific flavor text, and I'm wondering if that's your plan here or no? Obviously I'm fine with it either way, but still curious!
This is such a nice comment, thank you ☺️
There is some magic in this IF later on, but it's all tied to dragon shenanigans. I find it kinda hard to classify the story I'm telling within genre conventions, since in some ways (dragon, deities, magic) its high fantasy, but in other ways (modern-ish inventions, medieval-esque setting) it's not.
I'm surprised you thought killing the dragon was mandatory though, as if I were to guess, taming it / befriending it is probably the more popular option. My original draft follows the MC after he destroys the dragon's wings, so that's the earliest version of "canon" (they're all canon but that one was the one I was most interested in writing first)
I like having multiple paths as it makes each one more significant in their own way. If there's only one option, then it's not really a "choice" now, is it? I did think about whether or not to "lock" the player in the original path, but I foresaw that this would be a problem for most audiences. I got feedback on the original draft and it was basically that the MC is a psychopath and not exactly someone worth rooting for, especially since that particular reader saw the dragon as something similar to a puppy.
Jules is one of the weirder character concepts I've written, can't wait for you to see how his story goes!
As for your question, there probably won't be flavor text if you choose the name Aster. Aster was just the original name for the MC back when Blissfallen was a short story. I miiiight put in some text in one of the endings that refers to that short story, but I don't want to lock it to MC's called Aster as less people will get to see it.
Thanks again for the lovely comment!
