The holdovers (2023) is a Christmas movie for those that understand how inherently sad and yet joyful of a holiday Christmas is. It’s about being slammed with the memories of all those that are not with you to celebrate, the loneliness of having to one to celebrate with, and the impending end of another year to remind you what you haven’t done - it is also an opportunity to spend time with family and friends and to reach out to the people in your life and make those connections, and the beginning of a new year another chance to do all of those things you had been meaning to do.

I love the episode of mash where everybody writes their parents to go to a party to meet each other, and all the guys are all so sure that none of their parents are going to want to come and then we watch them all open the letters and realize they’re so loved that their relatives will travel an incredible distance, not even to see them, but to see the relatives of people important to them. why am I crying
