I was wondering about the number of slots open in the various villages. If Gale Spring is the epicenter of religion for the country, why is the population smaller than Scorched Mt? I guess I'm also a little sad that I couldn't apply as a character there too, but I'm more curious than anything else.
While Gale Springs IS known for it’s bustling community of religiously inclined folk, Scorched Mountain has always been known to be the larger of the 3 villages. Hosting the Samurai HQ, the Explorer’s Guild and many of Pokimono’s farm lands makes for a large village, despite not being quite as scholarly as Gale Springs.Scorched Mountain’s members also out-drew the other two villages by a significant margin a few years back, thus were rewarded with extra village slots. That’s why it’s a bit larger than the others. You’re always welcome to apply to any of the other 3 villages in the meantime while you wait for a slot in Gale Springs to open up, and then switch over once it does <:
Heehee, well you asked. For headcannons(both for asking you and a bit of my own thrown in) the world/land of Pokimono worships, for the most part, the same gods. BUT do the different villages worship one god more over another or do they all just worship the same?
Eheh - good question! There’s more information about religion in the WIDER world in the journal about the new lands outside of the Sun Empire on the Pokimono page. For instance, like the Sun Empire, the Jade Imperium is Arceusist, believing in Arceus as a high goddess, with Giratina, Dialga, and Palkia representing different aspects of Her, while a place like the Floating Plains worships various other legendary pokemon, depending on the tribe or family unit.
To go a little more into depth into Arceusism itself, it’s generally laid out like this:
Arceus is the high goddess, the obvious central figure. First, She created the universe. To do this, She created the universe, and then created Dialga and gave it the power of Time, and created Palkia and gave it the power of Space—combining those two powers, they created a universe were life and existence as we know it is possible. Giratina was created to a balancing counter dimension, because every action requires an opposite reaction, and so much divine Creation calls for divine Nothingness.
Once Time and Space existed, Arceus created the world, and to do that, She created the Rayquaza, the dragon who supports the Sky, Kyogre, the leviathan from which all the world’s oceans sprang forth, and Groudon, the beast who’s step shook the earth and rose the land up from the oceans.
And then finally, Arceus needed something to inhabit her world, and She created Mew, who, in turn, created all life from itself. After that, all the other various legends were created by Arceus according to however they were needed.
[In that way, Arceus didn’t create all of that Herself, but She was responsible for creating all of that—She IS an omnipotent goddess.]
[[This picture obviously circulates the interwebs a lot, but it helps to understand the general higherarchy, and Pokimono’s Arceusism follows it fairly closely:
]]
NOW, to finish making what should have been a short answer very long (cries), YES, all of the villages worship Arceus and her Trio in pretty much the same way. The main Arceus Shrine in Gale Spring is the religious hub of the Sun Empire, and there are other shrines scattered around the country. Of course, people who come from the Jade Empire or the Soul Kingdom will bring their own religions with them, and maybe some of the smaller, unnamed villages in the Sun Empire worship in different ways (maybe in a more “spirits of nature” kind of way, like the Bronze Coast or the Soul Kingdom), etc. etc., but in general, the main villages are all on pretty much the same level with each other.
[It would be interesting to see, however, if Ghost-types (or anyone, really) favored Giratina over Arceus, or if they gave Giratina it’s own narrative; an interdependent Creator who wanted (and made!) its own Dimension, instead of a willing servant doing Arceus’s bidding like Dialga and Palkia.]

Hello! llawll here! Recently, I’ve had a little personal pet-project of collecting my own Pokimono headcanons in an effort to start creating a wider and more intricate world for us to play in. This little world-building exercise has two goals: to make the world more fun, with little secrets and details to make for more interesting RPs and character and setting backgrounds; and to more firmly establish Pokimono in its Japanese-inspired setting.
Many of these details are my own thoughts and head canons about the Pokimono world, and they inform my understanding of the world I help create with the other mods. But of course, as a group, much of the Pokimono world is equally built by all of you, our dear members! To than end, I want to use this little Pokimono World-building Corner as an invitation for you to send asks or submissions with your own ideas or suggestions!
So! In the spirit of all of this, welcome to the Pokimono World-building Corner (PWC). Most of the following will just be random snippets of ideas, largely unconnected to each other, but I’ll try to group them in ways that make some sort of sense. I hope to post at least once a week, even if it’s only a few ideas at a time! I’ll also be using the PWC banner to answer any other world-building ideas you guys might send in as well!
[You can find these posts on both the Pokimono and the SamuraiHQ tumblr accounts, and you can direct any asks, questions, suggestions, or ideas of your own to either account as well!]

That's an interesting point of view, I will very readily admit. If choosing people that we felt we can work with, discuss things fairly and openly with, bounce ideas off of, and feel safe and productive voicing both dissenting and agreeing opinions with is a form of favoritism, then I suppose there's nothing for that. In the end, that was our main goal — to continue fostering a close, vocal mod-team, a team that is comfortable with each of its members, free from drama or discord. Many of us mods have seen too many groups die because of mods who withhold ideas from one another, who harbor grudges against one another, or who simply do not have time for one another. If choosing mods candidates that we felt would help us maintain the wonderful and supportive mod team we already have (supportive not only to our dearest members but to each other, to ourselves, to our fellow mods who are often tired or overwhelmed) is a form of favoritism, then there's nothing we can do about that, and we're sorry.
That said, the same could easily be said of many of the other candidates. Truthfully, we only received a very, very small percentage of applications from people with whom we were not familiar in some way (except in some mod's cases, of course). It would be akin to having ten much beloved flavors of ice cream in front of you, and you can only pick one — in terms of "getting along with" us mods, at least. (Forgive the weak analogy.) Many choices could have fit into that category of people we'd "get along with . . . because of the fact that we've talked and even made friends with them." For a variety of reasons, we ended up with the team that we do have, including that. In a way, it would be difficult to choose a potential that at least one of us did NOT know well and was friendly with, considering the many years that so many of us mods and many of the applying members have put into the group.
As for picking the good apps, well . . . I'm certainly sorry to say that I'm not sure what else we would have picked. "Bad apps" would be the opposite of that, I suppose, and I don't see why we would have picked a "bad app" (I should take this moment to say that we received no "bad apps". We did receive a few incomplete apps, which we could not accept for that reason, but not one of the apps that we received was bad.) The apps we did choose display a variety of artistic skills and techniques, and they all offered us a creativity story and unique take on the character that we felt would be an indication of their ability to create event and story ideas for the group as a whole in the weeks, months, and years to come.
That said, I am very happy to once again go over the mod picking criteria that we used. In order of weight and importance, it went:
Overall suitability for modship
Willingness to work with them (again, I am perfectly confident in expressing the importance of choosing moderators we are capable of working with in an open and nurturing environment)
Time availability
Comic/story creativity
Actual character application (the least important aspect, though nevertheless important in its own right)
Voting was not blind (we knew who we were voting for, since it was obvious with the Note + App + Comic) but we DID vote individually and separately (ie no mod saw another mod's vote until after they had cast their own votes). If any one mod WERE to show bias, it would not carry across the entire voting scoresheet.
We felt that this was an appropriately weighted criteria for choosing our new moderator team. We feel that, according to these guidelines, that we chose the best moderator team for the job. We are very, very sorry to anyone who may be feeling slighted, overlooked, or otherwise concerned with our choices. However, we are not sorry for our choices themselves. We received many very good applications. We received many wonderful applications. We as mods stand by our decision that these three were among those wonderful applications, and they earned their spot with the same amount of effort and hard work that everyone else who applied put in.
I hope that this answer quells or reassures at least some of your concerns. If you, dear member, or anyone else still harbors questions, please just know that this ask (and all previous asks) have answered the issue as thoroughly as we feel it can. That's not to say that we don't welcome, accept, and encourage any other questions or concerns relating to this or any other topic, but we DO feel that we've offered a complete, and hopefully understandable, answer already.
To clarify we opened 3 modship spots because that is the number of mods who recently left and we picked the musketeer trio for plot purposes. We honestly left it open ended between the musketeer trio so as not to restrict applicants. The categories then were up to whatever pokemon the applicant thought would make the best character to show case their creativity. However, the character design was only a part of what we were looking for. We also considered overall if the person had the time and qualities for a moderator that would work well with the current team. Given these conditions I personally do not think that our decision process was unfair. We could have been more explicit in our explanation of said process but whether a person picked a Verizion or a Cobalion or a Terrakion it still would not have affected our choice. I also want to emphasize however that our decision was not made lightly. We considered every applicant seriously and that out of the 20 or so entries we could only choose 3. Even then it was very close, there were many good applications, but in the end after an impartial and rather lengthy scoring we decided that it would be better for the group to go with the 3 entries that scored the highest instead of compromising solely because they all picked the same pokemon to create a character for.
We also want to clarify that we will not tolerate any backlash against our new mods. They worked very, very hard to get to where they are now. We picked them for their dedication, their ability, and their skills, and we could not be prouder of them. If ANY issues, questions, concerns, or complaints about this topic remain, please take them to us, the former mod team, and allow your new mods to adjust themselves and begin working their best for all of you, our dear villagers. Our decision is final, but as always, we want to make sure that everyone in Pokimono is comfortable with and understands our decisions.
Thank you very, very much for (we hope) understanding. This was a very long and difficult process for us and for everyone involved. But we are confident that, if everyone works together and has a good, open attitude, our group can be taken to even newer heights.
I think you guys are doing a wonderful job handling the group seeing how short numbered you guys are as is. The mod hunt was a good call to pull some people in & make them active again (also get fresh blood). W/ offline things you all have done / been doing your best. Only thing I can think of is having perhaps more mini events, like pairing people together to run an errand. That way the people that feel it's "cliquey" get to RP w/ someone new! Everyone gets cliquey in groups sometimes.
Thanks you! We get really happy when our effort is noticed :3 And we sure are happy with the mod hunt! Hopefully we can get some mini events rolling when the main event is over. Pairing people up will certainly be an option for later planning, thanks for your suggestion :)
I feel as though there aren't that many events. I understand that everyone is busy with their own personal life. Though was wondering if we could do mini events. Like maybe the villages could play hide n seek, markets, there has be more vermin recently, some royal child was randomly abandon is a village. Something to keep the group a bit active.
Seems mini events is a thing more people ask for. We are actually discussing how to bring this into the group! Atm we're busy with the big event, so the idea was put on hold for a bit, but we do have an idea on how to bring some fun mini events into the group, or some other stuff to inspire rps or art ;)
I have spoken to a handful of members who feel a couple of the mod hunt choices weren't well picked. One person chosen doesn't even play Pokemon games or know much about Pokemon in general. There were a couple people who applied who have been with the group awhile and seemed like they would have been much better picks. It almost seems like there was personal bias with a couple of the choices. Rather than being for the good of the group, but because they're friends of current mods.
This is both unfair and untrue. All of the applications were graded and voted upon evenly. Not only are you implying that the results are rigged but that the mods of Pokimono are un-fair enough to DO just that. Every single moderator scored each app individually. The scores were then tallied and averaged to find the top three highest. We are not all friends with the same people, and even if we were this would not affect our scoring. We also had to score lowly on some apps due to missing portions. Obviously someone who did not take the time to fully read the rules and fully complete their app would not be our best choice. Several were scored lowly simply because they mentioned time may be an issue. We want moderators who are able to commit to their new responsibilities. We want mods that can communicate with each other and with members easily. And most importantly, we want moderators who are fair in the way they treat everyone. We are VERY happy with our three newest moderators, and all three of them are already planning things for YOU (the members) to enjoy, both immediately and in the future. They were picked FOR the good of the group, and for no other reason, and if you don't believe that then there's nothing that can be done to sway your delusions. We're tired of being targeted for being cliqueish and biased despite our every effort to please everyone. If you don't like it, then leave. It's that simple. If you are not happy with us, with the group, then leave. It's here for everyone to enjoy, to have fun. Not for anyone to be stressed or un-happy.

About what would be tracking of members and points per village. How often it is updated? I see on the chats the members list but is old and unaccurate
Actually the member's list is quite up to date! Loverofscythe maintains it every time a new member is accepted into the group, and the other mods make sure to input info as well~ As for points, we may have to find a new system to keep up with them, but for now have more immediate matters to address <:
Have been watching shows like Rurounin Kenshin recently when i suddenly realise that the "country" structure of Pokimono (Sun Empire) does not seem to be very "set in stone"). Eg. so we have several villages and stuffs but is there a capital city of some sorts? Maybe an Emperor somewhere too? Factions under him or something...?The land expansions are awesome though.
The Sun Empire actually does have a more set in stone social and political climate than it might seem initially! (It's not really written anywhere explicitly, so it's not exactly easy for you and others to figure out, whoops!) That more structured social and political climate IS, however, quite different from real-world historical Japan.
Villages and the Country
For starters, it's important to consider the current villages—Gale Spring, Scorched Mountain, and Noir Vale—as much larger than the word "village" might initially imply. It might be better to think of them more as regions, counties, provinces, or city-states (whichever is easiest to imagine). There's a central village for each one, but they're very large, and each has a few associated villages around or near it. Of course, there are also many smaller villages further outside of the reach of the "Main Villages," too, though those are usually smaller and more isolated villages (and we leave what they're like up to our villagers' imaginations!)
We do have a map, which can help with imagining the size of the whole thing: http://fav.me/d505wy1 In addition to that map, I've made some rudimentary corrections to some geography and the closeness of some villages in the past, too: http://sta.sh/026k0zwtc049
In essence, the three villages are independent units, but they come together often (in times of celebration or times of conflict) to defend one another as a unified country.
Government
As for government, there is no Emperor. The Leaders of each village are, in fact, the rulers of the villages and of the country all together. Since many of them are very friendly and very accessible even to normal people, it may not seem like it, but they are the collective "shogun" or "emperor" type figures in Poki. They make the rules and laws, they establish whatever military or police forces are necessary, etc. In addition to that, the Priest-Leaders of Gale Spring are also the premier religious heads/figures of the entire country, and they're responsible for organizing all of the temples throughout the land.
But of course, the Leaders aren't alone! The Guardians are also political figures, but they're much more like Generals than "Emperors" (which is really a terrible word for it, but it serves its purpose). They keep the peace, are primarily responsible for keeping the villages and villagers safe, and also help out with smaller state or political matters. Each Guardian is responsible for overseeing the "fighter" class of their village, and each has a preference for what ways are best for keeping the village safe—Gale Spring prefers Souhei, the warrior-monks who train and meditate in the mountains, but who defend the innocent and faith, and all Souhei answer to Tserin and Koori; Scorched Mountain's guardians organize and use Samurai, who defend the peace and make arrests and fight against threats with their swords; and Noir Vale's guardians prefer to keep the peace using a sneaky, silent force of ninja, who keep tabs on absolutely everything and deal with problems before they can even happen.
In that way, villagers are protected by and answer to the Souhei/Samurai/Ninja (which is why we're very particular about those apps that come into the group), Souhei/Samurai/Ninja obey the Guardians, and the Guardians obey the Leaders.
Social Structure
And that last point brings us to social structure. Historical Japan (and indeed, almost every other historical and modern society today) had deeply ingrained senses of class and place. However, here in Pokimono/The Sun Empire, those ideas are much less pronounced. Regular workers and villagers might have to obey a samurai trying to clear a path to make an arrest, but that doesn't make the samurai better or higher than them. Women and men stand on completely equal footing (though of course, some characters will have their prejudices or alternate ideas, and some of the more secluded villages might have different views). Many Leaders and Guardians are very friendly and accessible to regular villagers, which helps to erase the class divide.
That's not to say that there's no nobility in Pokimono, and no classes to speak of at all. But we intentionally leave things like that vague to allow our members to have the most freedom possible when creating their character. We have many villagers who were nobles who ran away from their villages to pursue other dreams in the main villages, and we also have many villages who are nobles who come from the main villages and continue to live their in their manors and estates. These families are usually distinguished by their wealth and their bloodlines, rather than through any kind of rigid class system.
- - - - - - -
So this ended up being fairly long, but I hope it helps you when you consider the general political and social climate of the country! This is also simply my own (the mod llawll) idea of what Pokimono looks like, and I'm always happy to integrate the ideas of my fellow mods and their ideas! Generally, though, the reason we don't have this in a specific journal anywhere in the actual group is because 1) it rarely comes up as an issue and 2) by leaving it vague, we let our members have the most room to grow and explore! But these ARE the ideas that come into play whenever I play my leader character, or develop events and challenges for the group!
[I can also edit or remove this answer as needed <3]
The Pokimono community, along with the mods, have become a clique mentality. This wouldn't be bad, except for the fact that members and mods will fail to try to include others in conversation or rp when people are trying to join. They will overlook one's request for rp to rp with a friend again and again. It is discouraging many members in the group from coming to the chats and interacting with other members.
When it comes to cliques and friend groups, it's not much we mods can do about that, since we can't change human nature. We can't force people to rp with others. Some get comfortable with a few people and don't feel the need to rp with everyone who asks. The only ones who can make the group feel more welcoming to everyone, are you who feel that it's getting split. We mods try to be there for you guys, but as we are modding a group while dealing with real life issues, rp isn't always possible.
We of course want everyone to feel like they can freely join the chat (cause they can). Without members taking a step to hop in and interact, the mods are powerless to do anything. If we are not in chat, we can't do anything, but hope members will be able to be nice with each other.
We're sorry to hear that people think the group is becoming closed off, but the easiest way to help this is for members to take a step up and talk to each other. If even half of the members we have think " I want everyone to feel welcome! ", they can do more than 8 mods who work very hard to just keep the group going.
I think you all are doing a wonderful job. Keep up the amazing work. :)
Thank you, means a lot to hear :)
I challenged you to a children card game riding on hippo!!
Sorry, but we only d-d-d-duel while riding a gyarados!
