opting to retcon huge chunks of canon from your source material because it doesn’t align with your moral standing is so mind numbing, as if those plot points didn’t shape and alter the life and personality of the character YOU chose to write
Does link have a last name in your canon?
thanks for asking! no, i actually decided not to give him one. i think his canonical last name is literally link, making his name link link, which is funny from a nintendo standpoint but a little too ridiculous for the tone of this blog. many hylians in game are only introduced with first names, so i figure it’s not uncommon for them to only have one given name. the hylian population is actually quite small, even before ganon destroyed most of hyrule, so it makes sense that many of them are only given a first name as there is less of a chance that there would be several of the same name. they’re also all generally unique names, which i figure is intentional from a hylian standpoint. in my canon anyway, naming a child after someone else is not commonplace and more than likely bizarre at best, even maybe disrespectful (unless of course you’re a royal family member where namesakes are more common. ie; queen zelda & princess zelda).
the head canon i have in my drafts is essentially that generally speaking only members of the royal family or nobility are given last names to clearly distinguish them from anyone else who may potentially have the same name (though again i imagine doing so intentionally would likely be frowned upon). there is nothing wrong with giving your child a last name outside of royalty etc, it’s just uncommon.

“ i suppose you’re right . ” they were reaching the town entrance now , horse hooves that clicked dully along the wooden footbridge beneath them softening over a dirt path , one that would wind them through the entire tiny village and out the other side if they chose to follow it . he took note of the people , staring unashamedly at the pair as if they were some kind of bizarre circus act . “ but we are unlikely to come across another village before night fall . perhaps we should stay here , just for the night . ”
once wielded, the master sword connects to its chosen bearer on a deep spiritual level. its bearers physical capabilities are greatly enhanced, such as endurance, stamina, strength, speed, and reflexes - to an often uncanny & miraculous degree. when initially a chosen bearer attempts to wield the sword, they are sure to be killed upon their succession of possessing the sword if they are weak or unwell on attempt. this is why the deku tree warns link that he must be in prime health before becoming reunited with the master sword following his 100 year regeneration.
if for any reason the bearer and the sword are separated, the sword becomes practically useless to any other person or being, and all enhanced abilities are thus void in absence of the sword. the master sword is to remain in sole possession of the chosen one until his or her death, at which point another one person is chosen by forces unknown to bear the sword. regardless, the master sword will always find its way to its bearer no sooner or later than is predestined.
