Old school tropes still going hard: laughter cut off by a wince … yep #whump
there's just something so appealing about a character being ill and becoming temporarily dependent on another character to take care of them. the vulnerability that comes with that transfer of power and having to place their complete trust in the other person to care for them...it's very intimate. dare I say it's erotic.

character who doesn't eat very well being tenderly cared for and they dont know how to handle it (nor the amount of food they've been given) send tweet

the funniest show on earth
Moral Dilemmas That Will Mess Up Your Character
» They witness a crime but helping the victim means exposing a secret that could ruin someone they love.
» They could save someone’s life… but only by hurting someone else.
» They’re offered everything they’ve ever wanted, by the worst person they know.
» They have to lie to protect someone, but the lie costs someone else dearly.
» They can bring justice, but only by breaking a promise.
» They’re given power, but to keep it, they have to become what they hate.
» They have the chance to take revenge, and it would be so easy. So satisfying.
» They’re the only one who knows the truth, but telling it would destroy someone’s faith.
» They could protect the many, by sacrificing the one. And the one matters to them.
» They promised not to get involved, but walking away would haunt them forever.
» They were wrong and admitting it now will shatter their credibility.
» They’re asked to forgive, and they know the person doesn’t deserve it.
» They have to pick a side, but both sides are flawed. Both will cost them something.
» They want to help, but they’re not sure it’s their place.
» They said they’d never become their parent and now they’re staring in the mirror, wondering if they already have.
» They catch their friend doing something terrible, but they owe them everything.
» They can’t tell if they’re protecting someone, or controlling them.
» They get what they want, but someone else suffers for it.
» They promised to keep a secret, but now someone innocent is getting hurt.
» They fall in love and realize it compromises everything they believe in.
alright this is basic but we need to talk about fever chills
knowing something’s wrong because they’ve got goosebumps in a hot bath or shower (bonus points if they get extra chilled afterwards from their wet hair)
feeling achy and shivery hours after coming in from the cold rain, unable to get warm
curled up on the couch under a blanket, asking the caretaker to turn up the heat
hugging themselves and huddling near a space heater because they’re chilled down to their bones
someone covered in blankets, but they just can’t stop their teeth from chattering
sweat-speckled foreheads poking out from under a mountain of quilts
rubbing away the goosebumps that prickle on their arms and legs
shuffling around the house with a blanket tugged around their shoulders to keep them warm
being layered in warm pajamas, a sweatshirt, thick socks, a bathrobe, two blankets, and still shivering
crawling back in bed in the middle of the day because it’s the only place they can get warm
watching tv with a blanket pulled over their head so only their face is poking out.
in the summer - shivering in the AC, wearing sweats when everyone else is in shorts and t-shirts, covering up with a blanket on a hot day
in the winter - curling up near a crackling fire to chase away the deep, teeth-rattling shakes, battling both the wintry chill outside and the internal chill in their bones.
getting violent shivers just from shifting to a cold spot in the bed
“I just can’t get warm.”
clutching a hot water bottle to their chest, desperate for the heat to sink in and warm them
shaking hands wrapping around a mug of tea or a bowl of soup, teeth clattering against the rim when they try to take a sip
sitting up in bed with a blanket clutched around their trembling shoulders while the caretaker takes their temperature
weakly asking for someone to hold them or lay with them in bed because they’re just freezing
their friend cuddling with them in bed, rubbing their back to warm them up
welcoming the hot phase of the fever because at least they’re finally warm

A character, ill or injured, sleeping in a manner not usual for them as further illustration of their ailment's impact- a character who usually sleeps soundly and curled closely into themselves instead splayed out in a restless, feverish doze; a character usually quite active and liable to wake at the slightest noise instead huddled into a shivering fetal position and so deeply asleep it's difficult to rouse them; a character who usually sleeps under only a single light blanket smothered under a pile of quilts and comforters, or vice versa; a character with one habitual sleeping position instead lying on their opposite side or on their back or with one limb akimbo; a character who is usually very particular about their sleeping environment falling asleep without any of their usually necessary accoutrements or rituals or, conversely, a character who is usually able to fall asleep at the drop of a hat requiring much assistance and coaxing; a character having dreams or nightmares unusual for them, or sleepwalking or talking; a character sleeping with an unusual configuration of pillows or propped up in a particular position- any manifestation of a character's injuries or illness that extend even into their sleeping hours.
#That part
characters on the run
always so tired. driving for hours and hours in whatever shitty beater they find or steal, downing caffeine and too many five-hour energy shots pickpocketed from some gas station
sleeping cramped up in some bus or train seat, slumped over in a transit terminal, hoodie pulled up tight in the hopes of not being recognized
nodding off but jerking awake every single time, exhausted but hardwired to be paranoid even with caretaker's gentle touch and quiet reassurances trying to get them to rest
so much time spent running or fighting they eventually just crash. stoic characters slumped and snoozing, trying to keep watch and instead getting some much needed rest
lurching awake in a cold sweat, gasping and trembling, bandages wrapped tight up and down their torso
"we're safe here. i promise."
"it's okay-- it was just a dream, i didn't hear anything..."
shot or stabbed while trying to lose a chase. limping through crowds, desperately acting causal, traces of blood left on everything they touch
collapsing and drawing a scene, strangers asking questions and touching all over. having to slip away from concerned bystanders before actual help (or trouble) arrives
washing off in some shitty public bathroom and leaving behind a horror show of bloodied paper towels and smeared fingers all over porcelain, too out of it and in a rush to actually bother cleaning up
character bleeding out and semiconscious and caretaker doesn't know what to do, has nowhere to go. desperately trying to drag them along as the threat gets closer and closer, or hiding and waiting and begging for them to wake up
when it's too dangerous to go to a hospital. makeshift first aid in the back of some car, breaking into a vet clinic after hours, slumped over in a dank alleyway or dirty bathroom. shaking fingers and dim lighting and nowhere comfortable to recover
all of the places to lie low are sketchy as hell. trap houses, back rooms, dive bars, strip clubs, late night joints where passing acquaintances are somehow okay with shady strangers crashing on their couch. always surrounded by a bad crowd and caught up in seedy shit
wearing the same clothes which get increasingly fucked up. fabric lost to makeshift bandages or tourniquets, blood stains and sweat, the same hoodie passed between characters getting worn and sentimental
long sleeves, oversized clothes, shitty makeup, hoods and sunglasses and hats, anything to hide their identity and all of the bruises and cuts
barely any money to their name. having to choose between filling up on gas or eating, counting remnants of change, stealing food or dine and dashing out of necessity. barely scrapping by and working any job on the low, just oh so easy to take advantage of
getting sick, but it's not like they get a break from running. feverishly wandering around, catching concerned looks from strangers, never getting the chance to rest properly so they just get worse and worse
getting so desperate they eventually call for help. trembling and hunched over in a phone booth, nervously knocking on caretaker's door, so rundown and pitiful of course they wouldn't be turned away, where the fuck have they been?
you know what trope drives me absolutely feral? Repetition. Just :
"Hey, hey, it's okay"
"Shh, you're safe, you're safe, it's alright "
"Look at me. Hey, look at me"
"Stay with me. Come on, just stay with me"
"It's over. It's over now."
"I'm sorry, I'm so sorry"
"I'm here. I'm right here"
And when it’s repeated so much more emotionally second time? That’s that good shit
Whumpee who's been on the run from some sort of organization/the government/whatever for a long time, finally getting captured.
Waking up in a facility in the middle of nowhere. Knowing that no one is coming to rescue them.
Whumper leaning over to whisper, "It's all going to be alright, we're going to take care of you now," before tenderly stroking whumpee's hair.
Maybe brainwashing is involved? Will whumpee ever be rescued/ever escape? What are whumper's plans?
Whumpee who recently got off of some addiction (drugs, caffeine, something like that), but during captivity, Whumper forces them to take the addiction back.
(Was thinking of that one story @kabie-whump wrote with Ventis. 👀)

whumpee suffering from an addiction. whumpee shaking in anticipation as they think of getting their next fix. whumpee getting secretive and manipulative just to get their fix. whumpee getting snippy when interrupted when they're indulging in their addiction. whumpee who seems like a rude, entitled brat to everyone around them. whumpee who's trying to quit but can't. whumpee experiencing withdrawal.
Favorito Feeling Sick Positions/Reactions
When a character is sick and he has an arm draped over his eyes while laying down, bonus for the other over his stomach
When they have a migraine and they’re pinching the bridge of their nose trying to stop the pain or rubbing their forehead/ temples or massaging the back of their neck
When a hand is on his upset stomach trying to massage it or something especially lying down
Laying down on a desk with their eyes closed arms either under the head or wrapped around their middle
Rubbing his chest from indigestion/acid reflux/nasty burp with a pained expression
Hand over mouth because they feel nauseous
Hand over top a caring character’s hand on his stomach~
I guess that’s all•
