When I was sad Nisha would come lick my tears from my face.

Not knowing where she is or what happened to her has broken my heart beyond repair.

This saga of having my dogs used as a weaponized manipulation tactic for over a year and then Casey dangling Nisha in front of me after he knew I couldn't take her is a loss I don't know if I can come back from.

I highly doubt I'll ever rescue a dog again. The pain of losing my sweet Leo followed by opening my heart to a monster that found a way to use it against me.

I've said that I'm over it to my friends and family. It's just a dog. But those dogs were my life, Casey knew that.

While I'm extremely fortunate to be a dog auntie and to be little Miss Rigby's cat stepmom, nothing comes close to the connection you have with a baby you rescued. At the end of the day I let her down and I'm not sure I'll be able to forgive myself for not advocating for her the way she deserves. I would have never assumed this was the path that would be taken but it's a good reminder that the devil will look in your eyes and lie to your face.
