Who hasn't travelled the Delhi Gurgaon (Gurugram) route? No? Then you've never visited the NCR of the 21st century...
Matlab saara India ek taraf aur NH10 ek taraf ...
I'm a pukka Delhite who did her graduation in Gurgaon. So 5 years, twice a day...in the days sans metro service in Gurgaon.
Bus rides, shared taxis,walking on dusty roads, vikram ke peechay ki seat... Sab kia hai ji...sab!
So when I was commissioned for an art work depicting the transition from Dilli di sarkein to glistening wonder towers of Gurgaon.....
I tried to capture the awe, the chaos,the innovation, the teekha pan, the high life... All of it, experienced on all scales, all levels and speeds when you travel on NH10.
I mean, the entire experience, however much flawed or incorrect,is just perfect. For a keen observer, kisi bollywood movie se kam nahi hai.
Nimbu maar ke bana hai humara NH10 !
Here are my initial hand drawn sketches for the art work, later to be turned into Digital Art and then onto a set of handmade notebooks.
The idea was to highlight the satire of the everyday life in the Capital region of India.
Notice the selfie and brand obsessed choriyaan of Delhi, and the AAP's odd even scheme!
Along with the dusty wind gusting autos that charge you a kidney worth per trip in Gurgaon. Theke wali thandi beer FTW!
