I decided to paint something spring themed this morning , since the flowers have begun blooming and it’s finally warm again!

(As a bonus it also distracted me from all the negativity in the world right now 😅)

I did not take it too well

Introducing Phosphorus!

Phosphorus’ design/head is themed on the historically infamous use of white phosphorus in the production of ‘strike anywhere’ matches during the 19th/early 20th century.

Workers without proper safeguards were exposed to the chemical by either inhalation of the fumes or accidental ingestion, which over time caused extreme decay in the jaw bones, known commonly as Phossy Jaw.

It was a painful, disfiguring and often fatal condition which required surgery to remove necrotic bone, otherwise workers would later die of organ failure.

Treatment/removal of the jaw bone also had serious effects on patients' ability to eat, leading to further health concerns including malnutrition.
