“There someone you have your eye on? Plan to sweep them off their feet?”

“Come on, it’s just one dance! Pretty please?”

“I’m going to spike the drinks.”

“Someone spiked the drinks.”

“I heard there’s homemade sweets, this year.”

“I didn’t think you were the nice dress type. It looks great on you!”

“I didn’t think you were the nice suit type. It looks great on you!”

“You didn’t even dress up? That’s half the fun of the night!”

“Man, this night’s a real drag.”

“Wait, you’re here alone? You want to stick with me, then?”

“Why are you here in the corner? Come have fun with everyone else.”

“Are you doing okay? You don’t look so good.”

“Are you drunk!?”

“I’m very drunk…”

“Crowds aren’t really my thing.”

“I don’t see the point in this.”

that’s how history remembered mary alcott. instead of an innocent kid, she was a terrifying monster. the witch that had murdered plenty with a disease she created. the witch that would die. they avoided the spot in the woods where she was buried, and stories spread of how any nearby plants had died, that being proof that she was still dangerous, even in death. 

the story was passed down through generations. it was used as a warning for misbehaving children, told that mary alcott would come back at get them. it was used as proof of the dangers that witches still posed, years after the hysteria was supposedly gone. it got to the point that there was no real way to trace it back to reality. there were very few records kept that could actually prove that mary alcott had even existed at all.
