sketches from today (wip adult designs)
i know this would've gotten me sniped a few years ago (and even now), but...
yuji having an overpowered memory ability (potentially broken CT?) was a pretty cracked plot bunny imo.
most super popular anime protags have the Punch Hard and Everything is Well superpower, which is why i really liked the (temporary) plot bunny that was yuji having a busted memory ability. it was such an unknown variable that you could do so many things with.
it could've had SO many nuanced and grey branches...it had the perfect Surprise™ factor too, because who else in the narrative could've predicted someone like Yuji would have such an ability? it could've also been used on Sukuna (not brainwashing him into allying himself with him, but other odd memory powers at his disposal) etc...
Sorry if I'm missing something, but how was this ever a thought? Yuji has nothing to do with memories.
unfortunately you are missing something. this is another case of You Had to Be There. the fandom didn't have much else to assume when the first Instance of Yuji appearing in Todo's head happened (and later, choso's memories). there weren't any other "confirmations" that debunked this headcanon until gege came out to debunk it himself. the reason "this was ever a thought" is because of what the manga itself showed without confirming details.
it led to different tangents, but the speculation of Yuji having a vague memory ability was a thing. im just saying it'd be interesting if, in an au, gege decided to go the "yuji has an op memory ability" route.
No, I still don't see it. The manga makes it exceedingly clear that the memories Todo has are pure hallucinations that are all on him, since Yuji has no idea what he's going on about. It seems unlikely that Todo wouldn't notice that it was a cursed technique, since he is an extremely intelligent sorcerer, and I also think its unlikely that Sukuna wouldn't mention it at all or attempt to use it when possessing Yuji.
Additionally, Choso is also explained in the manga very soon after the scene happens that he and Yuji are actually related, and this is some sort of familial connection like with the other 2 brothers.
Speaking as a person who read the manga spoiler free, it never even occurred to me that it was something up with Yuji since the manga debunked it twice, so I don't get why anyone would have ever thought that in the first place
you don't see it because you can't (or refuse) to see the pov of the fandom back then, based on what was showcased in the manga at that point in time (before the gege interview that confirmed yuji didn't have an ability). no they did not, because we didn't know who todo truly was at that point, and yuji is only one person, his truth isn't law for all characters.
Sukuna wouldn't mention it like how he didn't mention yuji's blood manipulation ability that was revealed in the latter half of the series. this literal canon instance is proof sukuna just wouldn't mention anything about yuji's latent abilities outside of his physical strength.
the "choso" confirmation was FAR after the todo scene that I referenced, you're deliberately jumping to different points in time that aren't applicable to the times i'm talking about regarding the info the fandom had at that point in time.
just because it didn't occur to you doesn't mean it didn't or shouldn't have occured to literally anyone else outside of yourself. that's not how a fandom (better yet, any series in general that showcases itself to a general audience) works. at all.

when i'm in a getting dehumanized competition and my opponent is gojo satoru
hi yuta
I’m sure this has been discussed but I can’t stop thinking about Yuji curling up in a ball in the middle of the Shibuya fight and crying and almost fully giving up. It’s just so heartbreaking and idk realistic? to have this character who is gentle and cares deeply about everyone and has been through so much in a short amount of time with the weight of everything on his shoulders to just break down as the gravity and trauma and stress of every crisis that occurs that night hits him. He’s hugging himself, sobbing, apologizing, pleading, beating himself up because he couldn’t save more people, and it’s just oof.
Often in shonen we have teens put in these life or death, literally fight to live and fight to save everyone, situations and we get moments when the characters react but something about Yuji having this moment mid-battle hits different. I mean look at this kid
(Also, how long was Yuji basically on his own while his grandpa was in the hospital because the way he’s clutching himself is similar to that of someone who has had to rely on themselves for comfort, particularly at a young age, but I digress.)
Yuji has fought so hard and then everything that happens before this happens and it’s beyond more than he can take. He couldn’t help his friends or senseis or senpais, he’s struggling to beat Mahito, and he just can’t anymore. All he can do is cry and hold himself and try to self-soothe because he can’t even forgive himself let alone fight more right now. It’s painful and cathartic because we’ve been running along with these characters in this Shibuya shitshow and to have a character break down about the events in the thick of it is like a breath, a moment of yeah, all of this really is a lot and it’s not okay.
This arc is intense, but these panels were like a punch. All I could say Oh, Yuji and wish I could give him a hug.

Okay, going by gege's own rules of his universe and characters, the cleave shouldn't have even been able to happen. It isn't even reasoned away by his own universal laws, but by taking a basic physics class.
The main idea of Infinity is distance, not mainly/solely space. We know this because Gege stated Gojo's Infinity is Achilles and the Tortoise being brought into reality, on top of basically being able to divide by zero (bringing paradoxes into reality).
But besides that.
Infinity is not sentient, therefore it cannot decifer whether an attack happening within gojo's space is specifically targeted at him or not. It is indiscriminate. It triggers anytime anything steps within it's space/range.
We can see the range isn't just wrapped around Gojo's physical body, it occupies a bigger space outside of his body too. Otherwise the rocks would've injured Megumi.
Now, bypassing Gojo's Infinity via "Force Displacement" (targeting an area around him to have the "shockwave" of the main attack harm him) would work if Infinity wasn't indiscriminate. But it is. ❌
Cleave could also easily bypass Gojo if it had a teleporting like ability, but by previous canon examples, it's shown to be a projectile (if it wasn't, it wouldn't be hitting the environment around the people nor operate as a flying force. Mahoraga could see and deflect it on time too, which he wouldn't have been able to do if it wasn't a projectile and just spawned in his body). ❌
Infinity functions as an infinitely divisible distance, not as gravity or a barrier. It slows things, operating as the infinite numbers that prevent the object in range (1) from reaching Gojo (0). Gege states in between the two numbers is a gazillion imaginary numbers capable of dividing by zero and applying it to reality, re: an "Undefined Infinity series". This protection is not solely wrapped around Gojo's body, it occupies the space around him too, therefore attacking the space he's in with a projectile is just as futile.
On top of that, Cleave is shown to be wholly physical. It's CE properties are only based on downing the target based on their CE. That's it. Based off of it's canonical definition, it would be incapable of "tearing" space. Space isn't something that can just be "torn", in a conventional physical sense. It can bend and move but not tear. To be capable of "tearing" space, you'd have to have spatial manipulation as part of your main kit, which obviously isn't in Sukuna's. Additionally, he himself stated he couldn't change CE properties, which would be Cleave operating as a tangible, physical projectile.
TLDR: where are the fix-it fics + this all could've been avoided if it was revealed sukuna had one natural counter as part of his literal King of Curses kit but noooo + gege pls go retake your first physics class or stick to the rules you set for your own series pls
@sharpteethsadeyes
lol ur good + they do have parallels!
Polarity, electrons, electromagnetic force, and nuclear bonds are treated within quantum mechanics due to their inherent quantum behaviors (that classical physics cannot quite accurately describe, but quantum mechanics kinda can with their framework!), not necessarily because other forces operating within the quantum mechanical scale overpowers them.
(Also, density and mass may have macroscopic properties but possibly have quantum origins. For example, the mass of an atom arises from it's subatomic particles + the binding energy b/n them, which is quantum in nature!)
Also, idk if it was a major part of your question, but there are circumstances in which these macroscopic concepts can overwhelm density, gravity and mass. But only in certain circumstances. It wholly depends on the scale. On atomic and molecular scales, electromagnetic+ nuclear forces dominate. On much larger scales, gravity, mass and density prevail most of the time. The only times they don't, in extreme circumstances, is when there's something like a neutron star or magnetars.

@sharpteethsadeyes
no lol you're fine! I'll answer in a reblog because the answer is moderately long and wouldn't fit into a comment methinks.
1. Weak nuclear forces in general operate at very short, subatomic distances. Infinity is a neutral force, that activates with anything indirect or direct, so I think it's unlikely if we're talking about general nuclear bombs.
2. Black holes. Would definitely be on the heavier side and evoke a different reaction entirely.
At the core, space and time as we know them quickly break down. The gravitational points are so strong they create new singluarities. these points are where our current mathematical/physical understanding stop being reliable (similarly to Gojo's Infinity bringing that "Undefined" into reality. This aspect of a Black Hole is Impossible to comprehend, just like Gojo's Infinity).
Tbh, a clash between an Infinite-like power that Infinitely divides distance/space and a literal Infinite "Absolute" power harboring Infinite density is up to whatever gege feels (maybe an infinite "bomb" would spawn between them lol), but if we're to guess and speculate further...
If Gojo was near the "horizon" of a black hole (that is the Point of No Return. Not even Light, a thing capable of bypassing Infinity, can escape. Time itself is also heavily affected/disoriented, and the manipulation of it is capable of bypassing Infinity due to its properties operating on a different dimension from Infinity's), Infinity might fail, especially when we know that space and time start to be rendered useless the closer something gets to one.
I think in this specific case, Infinity would more than likely be overcome because I think a black hole (and the Absolutes it manipulates) represents a force greater than Infinity's force to repel. The effect in muddying Infinity wouldn't be fast though, it would be agonizingly slow.
Sure, the space Infinity operates in would continue to try to divide more and more space but a black hole is essentially applying a new Reality Effect, warping and basically rendering the space Infinity operates on, as useless. Infinity itself might eventually be more compelled to be pulled to that singularity over the space around Gojo.
TLDR: black holes manipulate forces that are capable of bypassing Infinity, therefore, imo, it would (if it doesn't outright end up "demolishing" it entirely) disorient and destabilize Infinity. Gojo would absolutely be affected.
