like notice that the widespread “destigmatization” of mental illness doesn’t seem to have helped slow its occurrence. in fact it mostly just birthed a bunch of new parasitic micro industries like self-care products and therapy and astrology apps that turn disorders into identity markers you sustain by buying shit, including medication 

No facet of any relationship should EVER be transactional because the terms of our relationships, of our boundaries and needs, are constantly changing (as are those of our partners). And if you really HAVE to look at it that way, then why isn’t the fact that your partner was present and engaged and responsive and thankful and compassionate while you were doing something “for” them enough to make you “even” without resentment? It’s not the knowledge that your partner will “get you back” at a later date that should make you want to help them. Healthy love is inherently mutually supportive, even when nothing is wrong, because it is a choice you make every day and thus requires work no matter what — constant, ACTIVE work. the ways we accommodate each other are natural byproducts of that work, not “examples” or “proof” of it
