How do you think things are for robots in Sonic? Socially? Legally? And outside of Eggman's robots? G.U.N. also have robots but I'm sure there are more.
I tend to imagine it as similar to Star Wars. The robots are products and property, but a few individuals dare to treat them like people (at least the more people-like ones such as Gemerl, Omega, Belle, etc.). Most people are also distrusting of them because of Eggman (similar to how the Separatist army affected how droids were viewed). Memory wipes and reprogramming to avoid rebellion are probably common. Maybe even something like restraining bolts.
No one's bothering Omega because no one's brave enough too.
My ideas are very not fitting the Sonic series, because I imagine that machines not created by Eggman are heavily oppressed, and even enslaved. Some sentient robots live under a mobian or some form of regular creature disguise so as to avoid being kidnapped and sold off and live in terror that one day, they will be outed and lose their rights. Many already would have lost those rights and been sold, and it's probably illegal for robots to have rights in the first place. There would be some places that outlaw the slavery of provably sentient robots, but even then it's questionably enforced. There probably would be abolitionist groups too. There would also definitely be people who "stole" robots from slavery and freed them both by altering their code to have free will, and by taking them away. Many people would support the enslavement and oppression of robots, as they would believe in Organic Supremacy. The terrible treatment of robots would be very public, as well as people calling them terrible things. Sometimes if it would be found that someone was a robot, they would face a dismantling mob. I don't think most of Eggman's robots are sentient, so there wouldn't be much interesting stuff going on other than normal, expected hate from regular people. TL;DR: I believe that it looks like racism in the US towards both Black slaves and the Black Community. That's the reason why I think Cora in lore saying that robot oppression is bad and evil is controversial in universe. Was this weird? Idk, I WANT the idea of any kind of forced labor and ownership of sentient beings to seem inhumane and make people uncomfortable.
