Agatha watches a combination from Australia go clear and does not look over at the connections shouting and clapping at the bar. She doesn’t need to. Their reflections jump and celebrate in the window in front of her, bejeweled and tipsy, overlaid upon a solitary figure on the course.

The horse Cal hopes will take him to CCI5* and the one that might actually do it; the pair are seen here at the GMHA Festival of Eventing back in August last year, hosted amidst the humid, hilly greens of South Woodstock, VT.

Apple has been a beloved addition to the Kismet pony club, stepping up to introduce children to multiple disciplines. From hunters, to low level eventing, and even the occasional polocrosse match, Apple is a mare of many talents. Patrick was offered the opportunity to borrow Apple to make his medal class debut.

Look, I did start writing something for Dot: something trying to be cute about her nerves (and thereby vaguely explaining her fumbling with the reins like that) and her excitement over a real big important EVENT but I just ??? ran out of steam and ideas and frankly, interest. Nevertheless: here is Dot, on board Rabbit, bumbling her way to third place in the 1.20 class.

It wasn’t that Archie hated Los Angeles. Hate was a terribly strong word. But it wasn’t his favourite place. It wasn’t even a favourite among his least favourite places. If you held a knife to his throat, he’d admit it probably ranked slightly above East London. But only because in East London, odds of someone actually holding a knife to your throat were pretty damn high.

It is not Agatha’s first time in Los Angeles, and she cannot say she is pleased to be back.

A flimsy looking girl walked to the entrance of a small arena. In it were a few poles, a single jump, and sand footing. Held in her hand was a lilac lead rope, speckled with black and grey material. At the other end of the lead rope was Valentia, with wild curiosity emitting from her eyes. She had a sort of feminine beauty to her, a distinguishable grace that beheld the most rigid of strangers as they peered at her soft, delicate face, long athletic legs, and gold accented coat.

As Fura’s carefully kept, brown leather riding boots, and Valentia’s, polished from the millions of blades of fresh spring grass, hooves, touched the sand, the two stopped. Fura ran her hand along Lena’s neck, and listened to the bustle around them. She listened to the liveliness of the birds busily crafting their nests high up in the lofty tree tops. As a minute rolled off into the ceasing void entitled ‘the past’, Fura removed the halter from her mare’s head. A single cluck and a barely recognizable swish of the halter and lead, sent Lena trotting, bouncing, and cantering about the curves of the arena. Curious crystal eyes studied the occasional strides full of pizazz, the vast amount of strength and effortless balance displayed during occasional bucks and rears full of ecstasy, and the quiet moments. The quiet moments of long ears swiveling to different sounds, and the mare’s black mane being lifted and dropped, up and down, slowly and ceaselessly, by the spring breeze that visited in that brief pocket of time.

Kataryna HL, more commonly called Kat around the farm, was once a renowned dressage star, agile and beautiful. She came from a line of dressage champions, an expensive line at that. Presently, it has been years since her mane has seen the braiding needle or the harsh lights of the large arenas. Her fuzzy coat warms not only her, but the foal she carries. The vet suspects a colt, but barn owner Mallory is insistent that it is a filly. While we wish she would relax in the heated and plush stall waiting for her and her foal, she prefers the frozen pasture; the warm morning sun on her back and the fresh dusting of snow under her hooves.
