“Oh, give me that,” Taehyun commands with a little sigh, reaching over to carefully pluck the pen and clipboard from the other man’s grip. It’s a trick to balance the clipboard on the arm of the hospital chair so that he doesn’t squish the cat in his lap, but he manages.

 “How’s your head?” he asks, glancing at Daehyun through the curtain of his bangs as he begins carefully filling out the intake forms. “You’re not still seeing double, are you?” 

Taehyun is still dressed in the clothes that he wore to work, a smear of flour decorating the front of his shirt and the scent of coffee lingering thick on his hair, but he still looks a sight better than the man slumped beside him. Between the blood dripping from his temple, the twigs in his hair and the dirt smeared on his skin, someone might think that Daehyun had been run down by a lawnmower— not that the reality at hand is much of an improvement. 

“What were you thinking, chasing her up that tree?” 

“Wait! Khami, come back here!” 

A blur of white dashes down the street, weaving between pedestrians with a bright red leash trailing behind. Minki is hot on his heels, calling after the renegade pup as he chases him through the streets. Judging by the state of the pair, they’ve been at this game of chase for a while now; Khami’s tongue flops from the corner of his mouth with every bound and the young man is in no better shape, curls a windblown mess and breaths labored and uneven. 

Clearly, Minki should have headed the shelter worker’s warnings that Khami was a bit of a handful, but Minki was confident he could handle the tiny pup. After all, worse came to worse, he could just carry Khami back to the shelter. Right?

Wrong.

The moment that Khami spots a squirrel, Minki realizes his mistake. 

He’s been chasing the rogue pup for five blocks already and Khami’s pace has yet to falter. At this rate, Minki will lose the little hellion in the crowd ahead, and so he calls after him again. 

*slinks in, starbucks in hand*
