WHAT’S THE PRIMARY PURPOSE OF A SAFE WORK METHOD STATEMENT?
The primary purpose of any Safe Work Method Statement (SWMS) is to enable any personnel involved on a particular job or task to understand the requirements that have been established to carry out high risk construction work in a safe manner.  The Safe Work Method Statement sets out work activities in logical step by step sequences, while at the same time identifies any hazards present in each step of the job, and then suggestsappropriate control measures to help minimise and control the risk if it cannot be eliminated. Any activity no matter how complex can be simplified down into a set of basic steps that permits an analysis of each part of the activity to recognise any hazards or potential incidents.
