some words regarding the conclusion of vId
this blog has always been a place for positivity. we wanted to create a safe space compiling fan content for allura made by people who did not romanticize unhealthy content, and without engaging in any of the numerous discourses this fandom has seen. we wanted to give people a nontoxic space to appreciate the deeply unappreciated princess allura.
however, this blog can no longer in good faith remain silent about the show’s treatment regarding allura. her death was the final straw. the showrunners took a black woman who survived genocide and they made her lose and sacrifice everything time and again. they punished her relentlessly for no reason. they killed her off for no reason. or more accurately, no good reason. because it is well known amongst those of us who loved her, who wanted better for her since day one, that the reason allura is treated this way is misogynoir. it is symptomatic of the deeply ingrained racism in this show, from the sidelining of its black and brown characters to its thematic plea of forgiveness for genocidal imperialists. the fact that after everything allura has been through, that the showrunners made the decision to have her sacrifice herself to redeem the people that murdered her people and planet in cold blood, is absolutely, unquestionably, abhorrent.
the end of the series is bittersweet for many fans, but it is a just plain bitter pill to swallow for those of us who hoped justice would finally be done for a black princess.
