          ‘ but i came BACK, aren. i could’ve left forever, hell — i wanted to ! but i DIDN’T. sacrifices for what ? —— for who ? people die — or leave, all the time ! that’s just how it works, right ? so why can’t i do that ? why can’t i just leave ? why does it MATTER ? ——— what does that mean ? why can’t we talk to them ? ’

          ‘ i mean, you could — if you wanted to, really. or you could just pretend to be deaf too if people ask —— it’s not like they would really question it. ’

          ‘ and why the hell not, huh ? what am i supposed to do ? just be MISERABLE & stick by some stupid set of made up rules ? you don’t CONTROL me, aren. no one does. my broth——— mavvy’s sick ? sick how ? ’

          ‘ oh ——— have you always been blind ? is it annoying ? not being blind — well, kind of, but i mean people asking about it. ’

          ‘ you work in MEDICAL, right ? ’

          ‘ it was more of a detour — it just took more time than expected ! nothing bad happened, i’m still ALIVE ! besides, it was nice to actually be outside these walls for awhile. i could actually do what i wanted & i saw so much more. besides, i’m back now anyways, so it’s not like it really matters. ’

          ‘ so, is it more of a — “ i can only see shadows ” type of thing, or a “ i’m constantly engulfed in darkness ” thing ? or is it different ? ’

          ‘ y’know, i really don’t see the point in this —— i’m FINE. it’s just a couple of cuts & bruises. personally, i’d be more worried if i came back from a supply run WITHOUT them. you’d have to start questioning whether i was human or not at that point. ’

          ‘ you know, i think being SAFE is overrated. safe is boring. it’s so much more fun to be free. sure, you don’t have big, strong guards covering every exit, but you can actually do what you WANT. ’

          ‘ so, what’s it like being a soldier, anyway ? kinda seems like it would get boring after awhile of no action. ’

          ‘ i like comic books — whatever ones i can actually FIND, anyway. usually there’s more than a couple pages missing & it’s not like you can really find them in order, but i dunno, i like looking at the pictures. what about you ? any interesting or cute hobbies ? ’
