“No,” you sigh, shifting on your feet, the nervous energy of the conversation sizzling in your veins. “I didn’t let him, it was a mutual hit; if anything, I was the one who initiated.”

Katsuki is silent, the sounds of the city around him taking up the space he would normally fill with insults.

“Did he cum?” The question is not unexpected, his disdain for the selfish man that is your ex had to have stemmed from somewhere right ?

You sigh, looking down at your phone. “Yes.”

“Did you?” He huffs, as if he is picking up his pace, a job lighting up on his work phone.

“No.”

“Right. Move, can’t you see me running!” Dynamight makes his appearance as he barks at someone on the street. “So he came and you didn’t but you’re the one who hit, run that logic by me.”

“Katsuki, we can talk later. Finish your patrol and well get dinner or something, I don’t want to listen to you huffing in my ear” the offer is a selfish ploy to avoid the current conversation. He can get extra testy while on patrol and you reeeaally don’t want to deal with his adrenaline fuelled irritation so why not keep talking over a calm dinner.

“I can talk, the jobs a few blocks away.” The crackle of his quirk echoes in the background. “Plus I know what you’re playing at, you want nice calm Katsuki but I think you need someone to tell you the truth” wind buzzes through your speaker, then a grunt from Bakugou as he lands.

“Can’t nice Katsuki tell me the truth?”

“Ha. No.” His explosive chuckle is not one of true enjoyment. “No one else is gonna be tough on ‘ya, so it’s my job.”

You sigh, pinching the bridge of your nose, ready to be read to filth but your best friend.

“You’re an idiot for letting him back in, not once but twice. How many times do you have to be shown he is an asshole for it to finally click? I know you have a thick skull but come on,”

The muscles in your jaw clench, teeth grinding against each other as you take your lecture.

“You’re better than this, better than him so what’s the appeal, can’t be the sex I know that for a fact, so what? You want attention? A free meal? I can give that to you.”

“It’s not the same,” you don’t mean for it to come out as whiny as it does but Katsuki sucks on his teeth in response.

“Yeah, it’s not. I’m better,” you can almost hear the smirk in his voice. “So next time you think about messaging him, call me and I’ll come get you and show you a better time than he ever could.”

The flirting between the two of you is not new. Somewhere within the last year and a half, the platonic nature of your friendship had turned into something little more. There was something there within the flirting and touching that was not yet romantic but no longer just friendly but it’s Bakugou, his goals too lofty to be weighed down by a relationship and you didn’t want to ruin anything but trying to pursue something that had no ending.

“I think I can show myself a better time than he ever could” you mutter, dragging your hands over your face in frustration.

Katsuki’s laugh is low and clipped. “Real dangerous throwing that image around.”

“I just meant it in a general way, nothing weird you perv!” A lie. You totally meant it like that.

“Mmhmm. Sure.” His voice is distant as if he has already started imagining it. “Ugh, now I’m gonna be thinking about it for the rest of my shift, you asshole. Happy?”

It’s your turn to laugh, rolling your eyes despite being alone. “Delighted. Make sure to get some good press pics afterwards too, get that Baku-bulge in there ya know. Give some of the fans a nice new home screen.”

The line is quiet.

“ ‘Suki?”

“You’ve just killed any type of hard on I had. Don’t ever say that to me or anyone else ever again.” There is no humour in Katsuki’s voice and you can’t help the laugh that bubbles out of you.

“I’m never speaking to you again. That is the worst thing that has ever come out of your mouth.” He continues his tirade. “I can’t believe I’m friends with you, what kind of sick fuck thinks up a word like that. Have you been online? Is that what people are saying??”

You can barely get the words out around your laughter. “No, I just made it up although maybe I should start a blog or something, take that username for myself.”

“I’m hanging up now.” Katsuki warns. “And blocking you forever.”

“Nooo, how will I get my bakubulge fix? Gonna have to look online like that rest of the world?”

“Bye.”

Then the line goes dead.

You’re still laughing when the text messages roll in.

I finish at 10. Come to mine, we can eat and you can stay over.
