𝒅𝒆𝒂𝒕𝒉 & 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒎𝒂𝒊𝒅𝒆𝒏.

summer  has  nearly  arrived  and  that  means  another  year  at  hogwarts  has  come  to  a  close.  astoria’s  waiting  patiently  at  platform  nine  and  three  quarters  for  the  arrival  of  her  son.  the  hogwarts  express  pulls  up  at  king’s  cross  station  after  a  few  minutes  and  comes  to  a  halt.  astoria  tries  not  to  be  an  overbearing  and  embarrassing  mother,  but  she’s  missed  scorpius,  of  course.  when  he  steps  off  of  the  train,  a  smile  forms  on  her  face  and  she  beckons  him  to  her.  “darling,  how  was  the  ride  home?”  she  wastes  no  time  in  enveloping  him  in  a  hug.

she  immediately  notices  the  change  in  his  demeanor.  astoria  reaches  out  cautiously  and  gently  places  her  hand  upon  his  shoulder,  hoping  to  provide  comfort  or  reassurance  or  support  ---  whatever  she  can.  “draco,  are  you  alright?”  she  asks  softly.  genuine  concern  is  heavy  within  her  tone  and  upon  her  face.  “you  know  you  can  talk  to  me  about  anything,  right?”

she  breathes  a  sigh  of  relief  as  they  finally  exit  a  somewhat  awkward  family  dinner.  “i  don’t  think  your  parents  like  me  much,”  she  speaks.  at  least,  it  seems  that  way  on  a  surface  level.  it  could  also  be  all  in  her  head ... astoria’s  not  too  sure.  regardless,  while  she’s  not  necessarily  seeking  their  approval,  the  thought  of  not  being  accepted  still  stings.  her  own  parents  already  think  she’s  a  disappointment  for  changing  her  tone  about  muggleborns.  

“do  you  ever  miss  it  ---  hogwarts?  before  the  war,  i  mean.”  she  casts  a  glance  over  at  him,  her  green  eyes  warm  and  inviting.  “sometimes  i  do.  mostly  drinking  hot  cocoa  after  quidditch  matches,  riding  the  train  at  the  end  of  summer  to  return,  trips  to  hogsmeade.  things  like  that.”  her  smile  fades  as  she  remembers  how  quickly  things  fell  apart  around  her  fifth  year  and  his  sixth.  astoria  sighs  and  tucks  a  strand  of  hair  behind  her  ear. 

a  smile  forms  on  her  face  at  the  sight  of  her  friend.  “changying,”  she  starts  as  she  strides  over.  it  really  hasn’t  been  that  long  since  she’s  last  seen  the  other  woman,  but  astoria’s  spirits  are  raised  by  this  reunion  nonetheless.  “how  are  you?”  she  asks  entirely  genuinely.  things  are  so  different  now,  post  hogwarts ... post  war.  but  in  a  good  way.

it’s  a  quarter  past  one  in  the  morning  and  astoria  is  somewhat  restless.  she  grabs  a  mug  from  the  cupboard  and  sets  it  down  on  the  counter  before  filling  the  kettle.  she  turns  on  the  stove  top  next  and  sets  the  kettle  there  to  heat  up  the  water,  intending  to  pull  it  off  before  it  whistles.  but  then  she  hears  footsteps  and  turns  around.  “oh.  did  i  wake  you?  i  didn’t  mean  to.  i  couldn’t  sleep.”  she  smiles  at  him  and  turns  around  to  find  a  box  of  tea.  “i’m  going  to  have  some  chamomile  tea,  would  you  like  a  cup?”  she  asks.  @malfyd​

she  sighs  softly  as  her  sister  speaks.  “daph,  you’re  going  to  worry  yourself  sick  if  you’re  concerned  about  me  all  the  time.  i  promise  i’m  fine.”
