I am proposing a new pride flag
I'm a big boy now, I had to shave my face for the first time because I was growing a nasty little neckbeard. Felt kinda weird.
I was telling a friend about it and he said he didn't have the amount of facial hair I had until he'd been on T for several years. Guess I'm just talented at being hairy?? I mean, I was already growing kind of a lot of coarse/dark hair on my chin before even starting T.

maybe y'all didn't notice but fat people who don't hate ourselves sure did notice that people were obsessed with shitting on fat people in the late 90s and early 2000s (conservative political time) and now are again (fascist political time), coincidentally while the market for weight loss has become a 90 billion dollar industry due to glp1s.
you are not immune to propaganda. it makes some people a whole hell of a lot of money for you to hate fat people and fear becoming (or staying, I think like 70% or something of the US is fat) one of us.
a lot of the fearmongering over fatness comes from studies directly funded by the weight loss industry...i think people don't really realize or think about the fact that research can absolutely be influenced and skewed by its funding. there is also research that shows that an amount of the negative health outcomes for fat people come from anti-fat bias. if you go to the doctor with concerns and the doctor simply tells you to lose weight, your problem is neglected and you may not even bother going to the doctor with the next problem.
every fat person you know for the most part probably has a story like this, of medical neglect. many of the stories i've heard personally are when the complaint or the doctor wasn't related at all, like being told to lose weight at the ear nose and throat doctor or at the dentist. it's straight up just bias. it's such a thing that in the show Shrill it's portrayed, when Aidy Bryant goes to the gynecologist and her doctor suggests she get gastric bypass.
the studies on health and fatness are simply not that black and white and there is basically no research that shows that more than an incredibly tiny minority of people can lose weight and keep it off for more than like 2 years. bodies have set points that they gravitate towards, it's not a personal failure. this also is how the weight loss industry succeeds so well - repeat customers.
some of the harm associated with fatness is also due to weight cycling, which is very hard on your body and is even worse if you get off a GLP1, which according to a recent study causes weight to be regained at a rate that is 4x faster than without taking a GLP1.
you don't have to hate yourself. you don't have to hate other people for their body type either. it makes me so sad to see the thinspo tag going around again in 2026 a lot like it was back in the day.

there's so much crazy shit once you go down the rabbit hole. for example, BMI was not invented by anyone with a medical background. it was never meant to measure individual health.

Evidence is mounting that our body fat supports everything from our bone health to our mood, and now, research suggests it also regulates bl
just gonna reblog this forever because i love fat people and we deserve fuckin basic human dignity and respect regardless of our weight
just a bunch of writing about some art process stuff!
I've been working a bunch lately on spaceship designs for Ezra's and my project, something we've put off for [checks calendar] uhhh... 12 years?? Listen, sometimes life throws you for a loop and then you spend 10 years working as a farmer instead of working on your massive intimidating comic project, what can I say.
Anyway, at first I was like "I cannot do this, I don't know the first thing about spaceship design and honestly I feel like an imposter trying to do anything sci-fi at all." But Ezra mocked up the silhouette of the ship and then I realized that this is basically a boat! I grew up in and around (small) boats and my dad always had boat design books and was always drawing up dream boat plans on graph paper. AND as a kid I was always drawing floor plans of like castles and shit. This is actually familiar territory!! So I started drawing up blueprints for the ship and it's been really fun!
Then I started working on designing the shuttle (I fully designed this one myself! :D) and I realized that I needed to actually get serious about measurements so that I'd know how big the shuttle could be and if it'd fit in the ship's shuttle hangar. I'd been kinda fudging that sort of stuff up til that point. So for the past several days I've been working on getting all of that sorted out in a document with a grid background, aligning annoying stuff like stairwells across the different floors (and the floors are offset from each other and different sizes due to the shape of the ship. Just to make it more fun for myself). It's sort of frustrating like one of those sliding tile puzzles (I change one thing and then I have to adjust a bunch of other things) but also pretty satisfying when I get things to work.
Anyway! This is all to say that I'm proud of myself for doing this stuff that's outside of my art comfort zone! Tbh since I've been making/posting space queers art again, I've been stupidly stressed that people would be seeing it and thinking "um you say this is sci-fi but where are the ships?" (probably no one is thinking this) and once we get the designs finalized then I can like. prove that I can draw something other than characters, haaaa
no more "Do I deserve?"
Deserving/Not Deserving clearly has no power. Look at who has everything, who has nothing, who takes and who is taken from, who has the means to give and who actually wants to give, who makes the system that distributes life sustaining necessities, who can judge who is lazy and who isn't, etc etc etc etc. Deserving/Not Deserving is not at work in any of these instances because it doesn't fucking exist.
There is no divine force deciding who are the haves and the have-nots. There is no God of Deserving/Not Deserving that gives to the needy and punishes the greedy. There's only human people acting like their judgment reflects a higher moral power when in truth it's just for their own interests.
So I'm not bothering to ask if I deserve something I want anymore (and by whose standard was i going by anyway??). Instead I'll only ask "Do I dare?"
Do I dare to take an afternoon nap? Do I dare pause work and eat a meal? Do I dare to buy a $10 game?
Because probably, yeah, I will dare. And the consequences can find me rested, nourished, enriched, and happy fuck you
(and if I don't dare, it'll most likely be for concrete reasons like "I don't dare buy that game or else I won't have enough money for bills," or "i will not dare to eat that ice cream because i don't want to deal with a stomachache.")
tl;dr // It's not that you don't deserve rest/food/fun/housing/healthcare because of moral or divine reasons. It's that the people who dared to take those things for themselves don't want to share it with anyone they can't profit off of in some way (monetarily, socially, whatever). So i'm dropping the idea of deserving/not deserving and picking up the idea of daring.
and i fucking dare you to take care of yourself and others and have as much fun in life as you can and stop applying a moral scale where it makes no sense.

Did my first art market of the season yesterday (did well! but I'm sooo tired today) and it's very morale-boosting to hear lots of people say nice things about my work but
the amount of times my work got called "whimsical"??? I think I now understand my art school classmates who hated when their work got called "cute." And like I geeeeetttt it, my stand-alone illustrations that I make to sell are nature-y/cozy/sometimes a bit fantasy-ish in a way that could fairly be called whimsical. But man, something about it rubs me the wrong way!
maybe it's just that the word only ever makes me think of "whimsical fuckery" (of Regretsy fame), a phrase that has stuck with me and that I continue to use on a regular basis for when I mean that something is "whimsical (derogatory)" lol
For my omer-counting project this year, i got some beautiful Assaf wool from Handmade Palestine and have been spinning it into these lovely strings! :^)
The wool has a natural ivory color with flecks of warm reddish brown, and a wavy, energetic texture.
All proceeds(!!!) from these strings will go directly back to supporting Palestinians through The Sameer Project. To get yourself a set, send me a message, or head over to my website! :^)
✨☝🥴HAPPY BIRTHDAY ME!!!🌈🥰🎉
I'm Ruta and i LOVE doodling in ms paint!
I'm happy to step in 30 years old train hell yeah!!!!
if you wanna do something nice for me - please reblog this post or any other post under "my art" tag!
a few favorites from the many altered key pendants i'll have with me this weekend at Yet Another Queer Pop-Up Market. i've been collecting the keys for years & it's very exciting to finally be doing what i want with them! the metal decorative elements on some of the keys come from a box of castoffs from a 1910s costume jewelry factory (lucky find 15+ years ago that i've been slowly working through). finding the right size quartz points for the hollow clock key tips is oddly satisfying!
don't worry, the human teeth are modern acrylic resin from a dental supply shop. i attach them to the key shafts (that have no bits of their own, they're sewing cabinet keys) with an epoxy sculpting material that i color-match to each key with metallic pigments. figuring out how to sculpt faux-metal is honestly changing the sculpture game for me.
