Winter was coming upon it's last month. Cold wind still moved through the woods, snow still covered their homes. Fishermen still had to crack ice that was created overnight, and miners still had to cover themselves in animal pelts to get work done. For some, today was a day like no other. But for the leaders of this land, it was an important day. They were to host the royal family, specifically the princess of the realm and her children. A marriage treaty between King Dallin and Princess Elowen had been forged, and the North made good on the promise to host the future Queen and her children in their halls.

The House of Montfault and Dallin's family never saw eye to eye. Years ago, the North had disconnected from the King and his politics, due to foul play and bad politics. Blood was shed, many lives were lost. But now, with the order of the current King and a new threat arising in the realm, he could not say no.

Dallin, ever the stoic, waited at the docks with a serious look on his face. Next to him, his son Bjorn stood. A tall boy of the age of three and twenty. Only a few inches shorter than his father, with blonde hair and blue eyes. "I heard they have dragons bigger than the Sunvern mountains." The young man commented, his father smiled. "That maybe true." Dallin cast a glance towards his son. "But nonetheless, we treat them with the hospitality we are known for. Less we end up at the ends of a dragons teeth."

Black wolf pelts rested on the shoulders of the two. The wolf was a symbol for their people, one of strength and comradery. Their crest was a wolf with a sword in it's mouth. On the horizon, the silhouette of the flying beasts came to view. People around came closer, whispering and looking at the creatures in awe and fear. Dallin, Bjorn and everyone around bowed as the white haired princess came before them.

elowen  had  been  a  strong  force  to  behold  as  she  struggled  against  accepting  yet  another  offer  of  an  arranged  married.  she  had  been  there  before,  trapped  by  a  man  who  was  handpicked  by  her  father  and  though  he  was  kind,  he  wasn’t  worthy  enough  of  her  love.  she  still  honored  her  duties  and  gave  him  two  heirs,  making  sure  that  their  lineage  would  thrive  and  carry  on  throughout  years  to  come.  the  princess  had  always  strived  for  freedom  and  at  the  death  of  her  husband,  she  finally  was  able  to  breathe  new  air  into  her  lungs.  the  relief  had  been  short-lived.  her  wings  clipped  before  she  could  even  attempt  to  fly  on  her  own  by  a  father  who  had  named  her  his  true  heir  but  made  no  efforts  in  preparing  her  to  take  over  the  throne  who  would  be  hers  perhaps  sooner  than  expected.  elowen  wonders  if  he  fears  she  wouldn’t  be  enough  of  a  ruler — though  how  can  she  be  expected  to  prove  herself  when  he  has  never  left  room  for  her  to  make  her  own  choices?

the  king  in  the  north  had  spoken  in  favor  of  a  marriage.  a  truce  with  a  part  of  the  kingdom  that  was  no  longer  ruled  by  the  crown  made  sense  for  king  eddard — and  so  did  for  elowen.  she  had  never  been  to  the  north,  always  confined  to  the  king’s  lands  like  a  porcelain  doll,  but  she  had  heard  the  stories  of  the  battles  between  their  houses.  and  how  bloody  they  were.  she  had  heard  stories  of  king  dallin  and  how  fearsome  he  was,  well  respected.  which  made  her  curious  to  see  for  herself  and  gave  her  the  hope  of  showing  to  her  father  that  she  also  knew  how  to  play  politics  just  as  well,  if  not  better  than  him.  that  she  knew  how  to  rule.  she  was  no  fool  to  the  fact  that  their  marriage  would  shake  those  who  threaten  to  ravage  their  kingdom,  which  is  the  exact  reason  why  she  had  accepted  it  without  a  fuss  in  the  first  place.  elowen  couldn’t  promise  that  she  would  be  a  good  wife,  but  she  knew  this  was  her  chance  to  prove  herself  as  a  good  queen.

Lunch was served at it's usual time. King Darius sat on his golden chair, stabbing at the duck meat placed before him. His son and heir, Prince Omid sat next to him, also stabbing at the meat but opting to enjoy the mashed potatoes more. "Darya, my girl." Darius rose to his feet, opening his arms out for an embrace. Darya walked into her father's arms. King Darius was known to spoil his daughters rotten, while his sons were treated with a bit more firm hand. 'They are to be warriors and rulers after all, I cannot spoil them too much.' The old King had joked. "We missed you at breakfast this morning, sister." Omid spoke up. "I wasn't hungry. I continued my lessons instead." Darya informed, taking a seat at the long table. "But I did have a meal with my ladies." She went on to say.

"Lord Commander." Darya greeted Rohan with the simple greeting expected from a princess. "I asked the Lord Commander to join us, as we have pressing matter to attend." The old King mused. He ordered the servants to take away all plates.

though  he  is  more  than  pleased  with  the  way  his  life  had  turned  out  to  be,  the  way  he  had  carved  it  from  nothing  at  all  and  became  a  honorable  knight  to  his  kingdom — rohan  could  not  help  but  imagine  what  could  have  been  of  him  if  he  hadn’t  been  a  low-born,  son  of  a  winemaker  with  a  maiden.  as  he  turns  his  back  and  walks  away  from  the  princess,  leaving  her  all  alone  in  her  room,  a  room  he  shouldn’t  have  been  inside  in  the  first  place,  he  knows  for  certain  that  their  romance  wouldn’t  have  been  doomed  from  the  start  if  he  were  born  a  lord.  a  nobleman,  someone  who  could  offer  the  world  for  her  hand  in  marriage.  not  someone  who  had  been  sworn  to  protect,  to  wield  a  sword  until  he’d  inevitably  meet  his  end  at  the  battle  field.  it’s  a  sad  thought,  and  a  constant  one  for  ser  rohan,  and  though  he’s  been  faced  with  life-threatening  situations  before,  he  knows  that  such  pain  had  never  been  felt  before.
