Raidou grew up an orphan within the Kuzunoha village, deep in the mountains near Shinoda. He wasn't the only orphan taken in by the clan, but he was the most unique. A pretty child with vulpine features and eyes the color of a cloudy sky. As has been long established, the Yatagarasu tend to take in and mold orphan children who have been proven to have supernatural inclinations. Since before he could remember, Raidou has always been able to see ghosts, demons and other entities that other people couldn’t see. Even as a kid, he was shy and didn’t talk much. But he did listen to people, especially the adults. There were rumors spoken about him in the village, ever since he’d arrived. Or rather, since he’d been brought there to live. It began with his gifted sight, the way he could communicate with unseen things. Eventually, as he was trained in the art of devil summoning, his incredible talents were recognized. He did try to remain aloof, doing his best to never stand out, but even the strength of his magnetite gave him away. It only caused the speculative rumors to flourish all the more. People said that he must have been part demon, himself. They claimed he was a child of the kitsune Lady Kuzunoha, as there had been some in the village who had apparently known his father. A mother was never mentioned. He tried to ignore those rumors, ignore the way some people looked at him, as if he was something that couldn’t be trusted completely. He focused on his goal to succeed the title of Raidou. When he left the village, Raidou assumed that the rumors and memories of the past would remain there along with his birth name. But there were some things he couldn’t escape. The rumors were true. He knew they were, because he can and has always felt the way the moon’s cycles keep him in their sway. How his emotional state can become heightened when the moon is full, how he’s most calm when there’s a new moon in the sky. He’s trained his mind for as long as he can remember to control himself, to keep that firm, disciplined mindset forever present. But even he can falter. Kitsune traits: During the full moon, Raidou’s eyes do take on a slight glow in the darkness. Barely noticeable but it is present. One might notice the rare but occasional glimmer of tapetum lucidum should his eyes catch the light just right at any given time. He can’t entirely escape his nature. Raidou will be more emotionally charged during a full moon, though this agitation is usually mistaken for a mild bout of anxiety. He is also more vicious in a battle should it take place during a full moon. Modern/Nocturne AU: These traits are presented two-fold, especially after he meets the Demi-Fiend/Kashima Naoki. Being so close to somebody like him, Raidou feels somewhat compelled to let out that other side of himself, and it scares him. Naoki may not be the first person he’s told about himself - that would have been Narumi - but it is just as important that he feels safe enough to confide in him, just as he once told him his birth name. Side note: There are perhaps only four people in the world outside of the village who know Raidou’s birth name. One is Daidouji Kaya, only because Raidou XL asked him through her. The second is obviously Narumi Shouhei, for the fact that the detective his incredibly close to him. (Mentor and friend, or lover, depending on the verse.) The third is Kashima Naoki, for the same reasons. But apart from that, Raidou feels a certain bond with him, not just because of their age, but because he’s also only half human. The fourth is Uehara Chihiro. He told him in a moment of comfort and trust, sincerely just wanting to hear his true name from the lips of somebody he was falling in love with.
