A Good Girl’s Guide To Murder Review
“Because I don’t think your brother did it - and I’m going to try and prove it.”
This book was so so so so great.
The style of writing was so nice. I don’t know why, but I just enjoyed reading it, it was easy and atmospheric. Really brilliant.
I mean, the plot itself was INTENSE. I loved its twists and turns, it was so amazingly written and honestly I have no idea how the author managed to keep all the pieces straight and make it easy for the reader to follow. There were so many different threads, I couldn’t believe how intricate it was.
And I just loved? Every? Second? It was so fantastic and cool. Such a brilliant read.
Pippa is a mad woman and I ADORE her. She was so passionate and sneaky and smart and AMAZING!
And Ravi, what a perfectly sarky little sweetheart. I loved him, and their relationship was warm and natural without ever completely engulfing the main plot, which I felt was fantastic.
I felt that the author handled the pretty heavy topics of racism and suicide (as well as murder and teacher-student relations and KIDNAP) with sensitivity and class without taking them lightly.
Okay, so. Barney. Boy, do not talk to me about Barney. I definitely let a few tears go when that went down, not gonna lie.
And! Something I was definitely relieved about was that Ravi didn’t turn out to be the killer in some desperate shock-twist. Because, honestly, I thought it was gonna be like that for a while there, because really nothing would’ve been more shocking. But at the same time it would’ve taken all the spirit and like-ability out of the story, too, so I’m pretty glad it went the opposite way.
And the kiss, and their whole relationship! I can’t even explain how much I loved the soft, devoted subtlety to which the author gives their bond. It gave you something to root for alongside the main plot without entangling itself in it too much, and I loved that. I loved how natural and healthy their growth together was, and how their chemistry was written.
The mystery was incredible. It had me guessing at every turn and honestly I just couldn’t put this book down. I really, really loved the Production Log. I felt it was a simple but atmospheric way for the author to keep everything set out for the reader and keep the tensions rising at the same time, so brava, Holly Jackson.
Honestly? If you like a good whodunnit with a sweet sprinkling of romance, you need to read this book. It is, in a word, incredible.
