Finally finished with the game's core architecture. Many improvements and tune ups are necessary. Will still need a few custom assets, and for that, (shudder) budget.
Player death in a melodramatic swoon.
Zombies moving toward life in an attempt to unbanish themselves.
My zombie banishment/unbanishment system is finally reliable and stable for one level of Death. Further gates are likely to be beyond the scope of this teaser project.
The debugging slough. A deluge of problems with the zombie spawners right now. Some of them are dying instantly on spawn because they keep spawning at invalid points. That's a problem for tomorrow. Can't figure out why i keep randomly teleporting to 0,0,0.

Player character being attacked by zombie. Still a bit behind on the pics but it does prove I have a zombie. Currently working on system to use Sarnaeth to banish the zombies.
More development hell regarding spawner queues. But hey! At least I have a game architecture.
I see no reason to keep secrets on this blog. Basically the game architecture involves hotspots of death auras, kind of like in the book, that also function as zombie spawners. These hotspots draw Sabriel into a parallel level, the first gate. Inside the first gate one will encounter zombies that have been defeated in Life. These zombies can be driven back to the second gate, and the Lesser Dead you encounter in this level are too weak to return from the Second Gate. Then again, at this point so is the player, so in the demo you can't go to the second gate without dying.
I've been working on the zombie queue snd banishment and making the queue persist between levels so it's referenceble to make defeated zombies spawn in Death.
I have pictures of the zombie, soon to come.
Stalled on the project due to investigating possible corrupted install of UE5, might as well take the time to catch up on updating the blog.
As you can see a previous lantern running animation looked like absolute crap so one of the things I've been working on was to redo this animation; since no free ones were available I had to do it myself. That was the first place I discovered the possible corruption since I wasn't able to access the sequencer directly in the animation editor. Now since I'm a noob I'm always suspicious that I'm doing something wrong rather than there being something wrong with Unreal, but I did get repeatable engine crashes on attempting to restore layout defaults.
Eventually I just edited the animation in the main viewer.
So the second one looks more normal. As you can see I also have level-wide snow and I've built the ability to sheathe the sword. Sheathing the sword does use animnotifies within a montage, which is why it's so infuriating that I'm having trouble with that now. That whole thing is what has led me (rather, copilot) back to the same suspicion that the layouts are corrupted. When it started telling me to delete .ini files again, I knew we were back at the same place.
I can't believe that when I look for content on tumblr for "Sabriel" by Garth Nix the only thing that comes up is a niche ship of Sam Winchester x Gabriel the Archangel
