Abhorsen
Started re-reading the Old Kingdom series. The Disreputable Dog is best girl. Lirel too, love my brainy but deadly librarian ladies.
But also...you know who would fit really well as an Abhorsen?
Gabriel Belmont. Fights the undead, pale skin and dark hair, and his name ends in an L like pretty much all the Abhorsens!
I've got a tiny little germ of an idea of Princess Marie being out and about and then the two of them meeting, rescue romance and everything.
Also, I could swap Laura in for Moggert...Not that anyone could ever replace the Moggert, but the idea of Laura riding on Gabriel's shoulder in kitten form and teasing him makes me smile.
Touchstone, 30 seconds after being introduced to his rescuer: let me make a lifelong oath of personal loyalty to you
Sabriel, a twentieth century girl raised at a boarding school that turns out type A girlbosses, has never met a boy before: 😬 no thanks???
Domhnall Gleeson is too old to play Nicholas Sayre in a live action adaptation but Dane Dehaan would also be a good choice
Sabriel script thoughts: presumably Touchstone’s mother and probably his sisters are in Holehallow somewhere — maybe even in his ship, depending on how much disarray there was in arranging everything after the breaking of the great stones. Having him notice them would be a nice hint to his identity.
He could, say, walk past the doorway of the burial chamber within his ship while wearing his stupid poufy shirt and notice them. Or he might recognize his mother’s figurehead, if she has her own ship, with particular attention.
(Sabriel: what are you looking at? Did you find the door out?)

Welcome to the Old Kingdom! We’ve got surcoats (yeah!) and small kilts (surely great kilts would be more aesthetically cohesive with surcoats…) and waistcoats (wait what?!). And the colors of the Abhorsen are dark blue and silver and brown except for when they’re powder blue and white (and silver) and the colours of the Clayr are green and silver except for when they’re green and gold except for when they’re black and silver except for when they’re pink if you’re called Lirael, not that one though, and the colour of the royal family is FUCKING RED. RED, RED, RED…and gold. Or black if you’re the regent but mainly RED.
This has been Ellyn’s attempt to understand the heraldry and costuming of the Old Kingdom.
Mostly working on a to-do list now. I hope to illustrate a cover art or something soon.
Today I made some improvements to player combat and put in some basic texture tiling.
Finally finished with the game's core architecture. Many improvements and tune ups are necessary. Will still need a few custom assets, and for that, (shudder) budget.
