everything  had  been  MOVING  so  fast .     the  entire  world  around  her  was  a  mess  of  blurred  lights    &     screams  of  the  damned     /     echoing  what  she  heard  WITHIN  her  own  mind .     wanted  to  make  something  of  her  life  !      always  had  …      yet  the  outline  of  bodies  made  her  next  actions  OH  so  clear  ,     nimble  fingers  finding  a  home  against  the  coolness  of  metal   ,      footsteps  running  to  meet  with  her  brother   ,     annabel .      after  that  … .      it  was  NO  LONGER  moving  quickly .     her  entire  life  was  in  slow  motion ,     DIMMED  orbs  watching  as  it  entered  through  her  chest   ,     unmoving  .  

lips  were  formed  into  an  o  shape  ,     SHOCKED  ,    surprised .     perhaps  she  had  been  caught  in  the  middle  of  a  prank ,    still  waiting  for  the  PUNCHLINE .        (     it  would  never  come .      )          q .      which  is  easier   ?       taking  the  fight  from  the  girl    or   the  girl  from  the  fight   ?       a .        NEITHER .       taking  the  LIFE  from  the  girl  was  the  easiest  part ,     where  those  could  stand  around  as  body  fell  LIFELESS  to  the  blood  stained  concrete  below ,     holy  ground  now  smeared  with  crimson  liquid  that  spilled  from  wounds  ,     soaking  fabric  that  clung  CLOSELY  to  her  frame  .       girl  -    almighty   ,      girl   -    unstoppable  !     it  all  seemed  …    like  a  JOKE .      how  could  she  have  ever  had  dreams  of  what  her  life  could  be  like  ?      running  an  institute  ?        it  all  seemed  so  far  away   … . 

eyelids  began  to  flutter ,     clutched  own  hand  against  chest  as  blood  spilled  from  open  wound ,     evidence  of her  struggle  ,     her  FIGHT  for  life  that  she  still  contained  with  her .     all  she  could  hope  for  was  that  ty  wasn’t  watching ,    that  he  was  FAR  away    &    couldn’t  see  any  of  it  ,     as  the  light  began  to  drain  from  his  sisters  eyes .

for a second, when it chimes,

         we  tell  our  children ,   DON’T  GO  NEAR  THE  SUN ,   but  in  doing  so  we forget it  was  the  ocean  that  SWALLOWED  him  whole ,   that  he  fell wave-tossed into  a  restless  death .   HIS  LUNGS  :   full  of  cold  water  and  salt .      (     not  heat ,   or  light .  )     his  heart  scarred  by  the  deep-black parts  of  the  sea  where POSEIDON  had  trapped  all  his  rough-draft  sharp-toothed  demons ,    sharks ,  whales ,   BLOODIED  bio luminescent  angler  fish  who l a u g h  as  he  sunk ,   open-mouthed  and  thrashing  through  the  dark .    how  the  water  PRESSED  down  on  him ,   tighter ,   tighter ,  as  his  white  wing  fragments  GLINTED and  his  soul  shuddered ,   knowing  drowned  men can  never  really  sleep .
