five witch hunters followed the surviving witches to what would become atonement in the summer of 1693.  all five were killed before the beginning of the autumn harvest, although not before they managed to find and hang four of the eleven surviving witches.  their bodies are buried in white pine national forest and, as though to dig the knife deeper, the witches of atonement used their remains in blood-magic rituals to create and strengthen the borders around their home.

each witch hunter -  henry hale, constance and joshua irons, gilead stoughton, and ezekiel finch - left family behind in salem and the surrounding communities.  while some of their descendants understandably moved on from their bloody family history, many chose to embrace it - and as the witches of atonement left and continued their lineage elsewhere, witch hunters followed and, more often than not, found them. 

in the centuries since, witchfinders have worked alone or in pairs, occasionally in small family units.  they target witches living on their own or with human families, paying special attention to witches that fail to hide their magic as well as they might think.  it had never been safe to approach atonement - infighting between witchfinders was always vicious, and they had never had a united front until semi-recently. 

clairvoyants have the ability - or at least the potential - to discern information from the past, future, and alternate present.  much like mediums, the scope of their abilities and their usefulness varies broadly; many clairvoyants find themselves reaching their true potential in old age, while younger clairvoyants tend to have limited or very narrow skill sets. 

this branch of magic is almost always rooted in rituals.  in the old days, small sacrifices - generally of chickens or goats, but occasionally the ritualistic burning of crops - were often performed, although few clairvoyants in the modern day find it necessary and will instead perform honorary or mock sacrifices in its place.  this is, however, not to say that all witches are unwilling to perform ritualistic sacrifices.  

clairvoyants also often find that items help channel their magic - cards, dowsing rods, runes, gemstones, tea leaves, and candles are used by various witches, sometimes several at once.  however, clairvoyants that are strong enough to make a living off of their abilities will often choose to develop their skills with one specific type of tool.

their magic is perhaps the most maligned, misunderstood, and imitated in the outside world.  atonement witches have seen a great many charlatans pass through their borders in the last three centuries.  despite this, the clairvoyants of atonement warmly welcome any true witches that find their way to their ancestral home.
