sana makes a quiet noise at thatâsomething vaguely protesting, but without any real weight behind it now. her eyes stay shut for a moment longer, like sheâs finishing out the last bit of feeling miserable on purpose, before she lets out a slow breath and shifts where sheâs sitting.
ââŚyou are,â she mumbles anyway, automatic, but softerâless accusatory, more familiar than anything else.
the water helps more than she expects it to. she can feel it almost immediately, the sharp edge of everything dulling just enough to think without wincing. by the time nayeon pulls away, sana is already straightening a little, rolling her shoulders carefully like sheâs checking what still hurts and what doesnât. she drags a hand through her hair, pushing it back from her face, then presses her palm briefly under her eye before blinking them open properly this time. everything still feels a little slow, a little heavy, but more functional.
when nayeon calls her pretty, sana lets out a soft scoff, but thereâs a hint of a smile that sticks this time, lingering instead of disappearing right away.
ââŚyouâre actually obsessed with me,â she says, voice still rough but lighter now, easier to carry. she leans her hip against the counter for a second, watching nayeon move around like nothingâs wrong, like she didnât also nearly die ten minutes ago.
the comment about drooling earns her a lookâmildly offended, but not serious enough to argue properly.
ââŚi do not drool,â she adds, a little more firmly, like thatâs the one thing sheâs choosing to defend today.
it pulls her the rest of the way back to life.
she straightens a little more without thinking, pushing off the counter and making her way over, steps slow but steady now, no longer cautious in that fragile, breakable way.
ââŚokay,â she says as she drops into the chair, exhaling as she settles in, one elbow coming up to rest on the table while she props her chin in her hand. âthat actually smells like it might fix everything.â
she watches nayeon for a second, quieter, more grounded now, before her gaze drifts slightly, thoughts catching up againâbut this time without the sharp edge from before.
ââŚand for the record,â she adds, tone slipping back into something teasing, something more like herself, âif i fall, iâm taking you down with me. iâm not doing this alone.â
she shifts in the chair, leaning back a little, one leg crossing over the other as she exhales again, slower this time. "after this, i think i need a really, really big coffee."
ââŚalso,â she continues, like itâs an afterthought, âif he did carry us, i stand by what i said.â thereâs a faint twitch at the corner of her mouth. ââŚthatâs kind of hot. likeâobjectively.â she glances toward nayeon, not quite meeting her eyes, just enough to say it without making it a thing. ââŚstrength is attractive. thatâs just⌠basic logic.â
