The seal will ensure anyone carrying a letter will be paid by the court when they arrive." Gingerly, Merlin accepted the package. "Of course, sire," he replied, bemused. "Though I wouldn't know what importance news from Ealdor could have for Camelot." --- Disillusioned by his mentors and facing a crisis of faith, Merlin departs Camelot to seek answers in old magics to the north. He gets leave from Arthur by pretending his mother has fallen ill and needs his help at home. When Arthur initiates an unexpected correspondence, he uncovers surprising truths and ultimately finds that no one can bring Merlin home again, but him.

"Before, during the ambush, the enemies seemingly flew off their mounts", Arthur said with a raised eyebrow. Merlin's pulse rose, but he tried to play it off as him being an idiot by leaning his head to the side and pursing his lips. "Did they really?" "They did." Arthur didn't seem to have time for Merlin's antics right now. He crossed his arms over his chest. "Do you have any idea what might have caused that?" "Oh, well… it's a breezy spring. The winds tend to be very strong this time of year." Or in which Arthur knows about Merlin’s magic, but waits - perhaps not very patiently - for Merlin to tell him himself. But when seeking out a magical beast by the border of the kingdom, they might not have the choice to stay quiet anymore.

Set against the backdrop of season 3, Merlin and Arthur's relationship develops as it is put through various trials and tribulations. They grow closer than ever and push the bounds of propriety as their bond grows stronger, but Merlin's secret threatens to tear them apart and when it is revealed, everything they thought they knew about one another must be re-evaluated. In the end, the only question that needs to be answered is whether they love one another enough to overcome it.

When everything he thought he knew about his manservant changes, Arthur has to decide if he really ever knew Merlin at all, or if everything he dreams of having is going to slip through his fingers."
