Who alway got in trouble? Me.

They would call my mother and she always came in and lectures my teachers and threatened to sue for making her miss work and treating me poorly.

She always taught my brothers to respect women. The only fights my brothers ever got in was defending women from someone else.

So naturally, I end up in the principal’s office, refusing to apologize. 

“He shouldn’t have put his hands on me and I wouldn’t have hit him!” That’s the only thing I was saying.

These people had the unfortunate luck of catching my dad at home, instead of my mom. So he comes fucking sauntering in there, like he’s Clint fucking Eastwood in some western movie and looks at me. 

“Melissa, did you punch him?” 

“Yes.” I said. 

“Why?” 

“Because he snapped my bra strap.” 

And he turns his squinty eyed glare to the principal and says, “You’re telling me my daughter is in trouble because that squirrely looking kid put his hands on her and she chose to defend herself? That’s what you are saying to me.” 

“Well, sir-” The man kind of stuttered because my dad is kind of intimidating in the quiet sort of way that kind of whispers in the back of your mind that this person could be dangerous. “Melissa did make it physical.” 

“No. That kid put his hands on my daughter. Are you saying my daughter cannot defend herself when some boy decides to put hands on her? Is that what you are teaching my girl?” 

Chaplin’s films were banned in Nazi Germany, and Nazi propaganda smeared him constantly. (Part of the smear was claiming he was Jewish–which he was not, but calling someone Jewish in Nazi Germany was guaranteed to inflame public sentiment against them.)

Chaplin was concerned with social issues like homelessness, and was a liberal and an anti-Nazi at a time when to be either one (let along both) was to be accused of being a Communist–which at the time was pretty one of the worst things you could call someone–and indeed “anti-American.” (Because, again, American conservatives loved them some Nazis–right up until the time Hitler’s forces started invading other countries–and even then, the bulk of the US thought we shouldn’t “interfere” in what they saw as a strictly European affair.)

Even after the war, and even after the world realized the despicable things the Nazis had done, Chaplin couldn’t shake the “Communist” and “anti-American” accusations from conservative American “journalists,” politicians, and others on the far right, who were still angry with him for his pre-war anti-Nazi sentiments.

And when he refused to participate in the McCarthy’s “Red Scare” Communist witch-hunts of the early 1950s, he was banned from re-entering the United States, while on a trip to England.

In short, Chaplin’s ANTI-NAZI leanings made him so many enemies in the US that they set off a chain of events that eventually saw him kicked out of the country. Oh, sure, the US finally issued a formal apology and invited him back, but by that time, his response was pretty much, “Yeah, too little, too late.” And justifiably so.

Chaplin stood against everything the Nazis stood for, and was smeared and punished for it.

So don’t you fucking dare call Charlie Chaplin a Nazi.

Ghostbusters star Leslie Jones has been racially harassed on Twitter.

The new Ghostbusters movie is finally out but it’s already receiving a lot of hate. And you have to be dumb not to guess what exactly most people (*cough* white people *cough*) are dissatisfied with.

So one of the characters, Patty Tolan, is portrayed by a Black actress and comedian, Leslie Jones. Last night she was attacked by an army of fans of Milo Yiannopoulos, an Islamophobic British journalist who writes for Breitbart.com, after he published his review of the movie, in which he, among other things, said:

Patty is the worst of the lot. The actress is spectacularly unappealing, even relative to the rest of the odious cast. But it’s her flat-as-a-pancake black stylings that ought to have irritated the SJWs. I don’t get offended by such things, but they should.

Jones received a colossal amount of disrespectful hateful tweets, while Yiannopoulos was having fun.

Fellow actors and other people supported Leslie by expressing their thoughts on Twitter with #LoveForLeslieJ.

Teenagers have to go to school. There are limits to how long and what hours they can work. So if fast food was truly just made for teenagers then it’s only be open like 3:30-10. There would be no grabbing a McMuffin on your way to work, or a frosty at 1am. If every adult left the food industry to teenagers it would crumble.

So realistically, it’s not just a job for teenagers, because it’s adults who have to wake up super early to open the store. It’s adults who work the overnight shifts to. And those adult sure as shit deserve a living wage.

Replace “civil rights movement” with “Black Lives Matter” and “1964” with “2016”
