Highschool felt like breeze, but it isn't a quiet one—your days were filled with jokes and laughter. You and Rin were polar opposites and everyone knew that, but that just meant you completed each other. You were the loud kind that could bring everyone's face to laughter while Rin was the calmer and quiet one. You were always interested in art—music especially, while Rin loved soccer; it was basically his life, his soul.
The world felt like it belonged to both of you, no one else mattered when you had each other, countless hours spent together—only the two of you, that is until a certain transfer student came.
Everything was like usual at first, until Rin suddenly introduced you to her, and then suddenly—it wasn't the two of you anymore. Inside jokes wasn't just for the two of you anymore, Saturday night wasn't just for the two of you anymore.
For them, time flew by normally, but for you every second together with the three of you was a heartbreak, and the saddest part is that they didn't notice when you drifted apart.
"Hey—Rin, are you dating her?" your first word when you finally got the time together, just the two of you; for the last time.
"No, at least not yet. Why'd you ask?" his usual cold expression remains on his face, not realizing the tug in your heart. 'Not yet' the word rang in your ear like a whisper of a ghost.
"No reason, just wondering.." you mouth as if you didn't care, when you did; all you could do was care.
The next day, you were waiting for him to finish practice—when it was finally over the first person he came to wasn't you. It was her. You were about to cry right at that moment but you could gathered yourself enough not to and just came up to him to give him water while playing it off as a joke.
Days turned into weeks, and weeks turned into months. Without realizing it, you no longer speak to him the same as you used to—but the feeling never went away. Eventually, graduation came and you mustered up the courage a finally confessed to him.
"I like you, before she came before anything when the world felt like it was ours to rule—I've loved you ever since." the words came out of your mouth smoothly like you practiced months to say that, but you didn't—because that's how you genuinely felt for him and your heart knew that.
Rin wanted to accept that confession, his heart and soul craved for you but his mind did not. His mind was still at her.
"Look—Y/n, I like you. I really do, but I can't accept it. Not when I still have to think about–" "Don't finish what you're about to say." you cut off.
"I confessed not because I was expecting acceptance, I did it because I wanted to tell you the truth—even if after this we'll never talk again."
And what you said was indeed true; both of you never talked again after that day.
Years went by and you life continued, you went on your path pursuing a music career was successful. He went on with soccer and eventually made it.
You'd both had become well known by then, you'd see his face in the billboard as an ad and he'd see your name featured on movies OST. Both of you would react the same every time each others name are mentioned, none of you had forgotten.
You had remembered and kept your promise when all those years ago you'd write a song specially for him, how could you not when his name was all that used to matter in your world.
You don't know what came over you when you decided to call him on one rainy day. You didn't expect him to answer, but he did; it's so strange how it seems like he's always there every time you needed him.
The call was silent for a few second, you took a deep breath before muttering your first words to him in years.
"Hey, is this Rin?" you spoke quietly as if afraid of his reaction, why wouldn't you be afraid, when the last time you spoke you got rejected.
"Y/n, is that you—how have you been?" he answered and yet you stayed quiet for a moment, was it because of the tears you were holding on to not fall or was it because the fact your throat couldn't mutter a word?
"Uh, yeah sorry. I've been doing okay, I heard you got a lot of sponsors now. Oh and—how are you and uh, y'know doing?" you finally muster.
"Yeah, also glad to hear you're making music now." there was a silent before his next sentence, you knew that meant something wasn't right.
"Me and her we kinda, fell apart. She said I was too caught up in soccer." for some reason his answer didn't surprise you. Rin has always been someone who is serious about his passion, it never and doesn't who's he's with, yet you never cared about that.
"I see, I'm sure you'll find someone better." but Rin didn't want someone better at this point—he wanted you. But he knew he couldn't say it; at least not just yet.
"I've been meaning to say. I—uhm, made a song, I haven't released it yet but I think you should hear it first" you murmured as you placed the cassette on the recorder.
As the song plays you finally felt the moisture building up on your cheeks, you tried to hide your sounds but that's when you heard it—muffled echoes from the other side. Hearing that, you couldn't hold your moans anymore; you wailed and sniffle.
Once the song ends, the call cut off. Just like that.
After that call none of you contacted each other again, and you never expected to hear his voice let alone see his face again. Life moved on and so did you—until a few years later, you were on a stroll.
"Hey, you dropped your wallet" a voice that seemed somewhat familiar to you rang through your ears. You tried to ignored it but when you turned around you were met with a face you knew all to well.
"Rin" "Y/n" both of you said at the same time as if what was supposed to be me and you was still 'us'.
"Funny seeing you here, uh—thank you for finding my wallet." you exclaimed as you took the wallet from his hand
"Uh, yeah—how are you, it's.. been a while." his voice quiet and slow, but it isn't the cold tone you remember.
"I'm doing great, although it's been really stressful with y'know, career and the–" your sentence was cut short with your kids running to you tugging on your cloak.
"Hi baby!" you crouched down lifting out mini-you from the ground, supporting her on your arm.
"I'm sorry, she's been really clingy lately.. I don't even know why." you frowned, not realizing the pure shock on his face.
"You're married now?" he blurted, his heart fell into a thousand pieces when he realized the reality of what's happening.
"Oh, yeah, I think they should be somewhere with the other kids—oh there they are!" referring to your partner who's currently waving towards you.
"I probably should go, it was nice catching up with you. See you around, Itoshi." hearing you saying his last name was his final straw of realization, that's when he knew he was definitely too late; that's something he is forced to accept.
"I can say the same to you, L/n." he mumbled quietly watching you leave.
All that he can think right now is how much he regretted it, how much he regretted all of it. Now all he can do is watch as the lost of his life leave again; because Y/n L/n isn't his to hold anymore.

IN WHICH—you accidently opened up a bakery shop right in front of your ex-highschool relationship's onigiri restaurant.
꒰ CONTENT ꒱ fluff (at the end trust), semi-angst with a happy ending, nicknames and yearning, slight enemies to lovers troupe

You've always dreamt of opening up your own bakery, you finally got the chance to when you finally came back home to Japan after graduating university. When you first signed the contract for the bakery all that you've known is the fact that there's a restaurant in front of you, what you didn't know was the fact that the restaurant across was owned by none other than your ex-boyfriend—Osamu Miya.
Everything was fine before you knew, even if every now and then a few customers would mention about how delicious the onigiris was on the store across the street; but you never gave much thought about it. That is until one day you were closing up the store and saw an unfamiliar figure on the shop across. You didn't realize it at first, not with his hair that has turned dark instead of the soft light grey hair you used to touch, but you realized instantly when your eyes met, you felt your heart dropped to your stomach as your chest tightens—both of you were speechless. The eye contact wasn't long, but it was long enough to make you remember, all of those memories, laughter, dates, and the worst—how you broke up.
Back in high school, you two were always together, everyone in Inarizaki knew that. You've been dating since the start of 2nd year and have never fought once. Your relationship was stable, even if he wasn't the extra out-going type like Atsumu was, he'd always take care of you with his own ways; he would give you his jacket even when you didn't ask, he'd give you the umbrella cause he knew you'll always forget yours, and the most important part is that he was always there for you in the most gentlest way.
You've always liked baking, you would always make countless food just for Osamu, and every time he would finish it. On your second year when you found out he wanted to focus on food-related occupation both of you had made a promise to make a restaurant together.
"Hey—Samu..lets make a restaurant together after we graduate!"
As your head laid upon his lap with his hands caressing your hair, his touch was soft and soothing. The air was clean and the room was quiet, but just presence of each other is enough for the both of you to never feel lonely.
"Hm, is that really what you want then?" His eyes met yours, and you felt your whole world stop for a just for a moment before you got up and set up straight. "Yeah, I'll bake cakes and you can make your onigiris!" Your smile was so bright as if you were the happiest girl in the world, but the truth is—it's not as if, you were the happiest girl in the world, he made you the happiest girl in the world.
Everything was fine, until graduation—you decided to continue study culinary on Europe. Osamu was fine with it, you guys have talked it out and both agreed to try and continue. However—it didn't last long—with the huge difference with timezones, barely hanging on and keeping in touch with each other. The breakup wasn't exactly sad and complicated, you both just—drifted apart. Both of you decided to just end it there, no fighting or arguments, but the pain is still there. You couldn't deny it and the fact is that even if you thought you moved on, you haven't.
Those memories are engraved in your mind like sketches on a stone, and yet—now you're here with the same person who gave those bittersweet memories. You were the first to break the contact, you locked your bakery door and acted as if he never existed. While you were busy with that you hadn't realized that his eyes were still on you this whole time, he was mesmerized and hurt at the same time, you would thought he moved on, but no. He has always missed you; every part of you from your scent, your voice, your smile and gaze, but most importantly—your presence.
The next day you tried to not think much about it, that attempt failed when a certain broad muscular man showed up on the door of your bakery.
"Welcome, how may I help.. you.." your sentence was cut short when you realized who was standing right ahead of you.
"Yer' takin' all of my customer" was his first sentence. The first time you heard his voice in years and he's trying to become someone you despise. Your mind filled with confusion and annoyance. 'I thought we ended on good terms' was the first thing that formed into mind.
"I'm sorry? I think there may have been a misunderstanding, I mean we don't even sell the same type of food-" you tried to reply with a smile before he interrupted while you were talking.
"Yea, but my regulars see yer' bakery and decided that they didn't want t'eat at my restaurant." his response made you let a slight sigh out of your mouth without realizing.
"Well how do you know that? You know what—if you're not buying anything then-" he cuts you. Again.
"Lemme' get one cheesecake to go." with a stern voice, as he pulled out his wallet from his pocket. You scoffed but still scanned the bill anyway. As you packed his order you could feel his gaze upon you, your faced gained a small flush of pink, in which—you would very much hate to admit. A sarcastic smile formed on your face as you gave him his order and waved him goodbye.
The next few weeks, Osamu kept visiting your bakery—you'd be lying to yourself if you said this wasn't his attempt to get you back. He wasn't the type to make the first move, or even give much care, so if he's willing to do this much just to get your attention there's only one meaning; he wants, no—needs—to get you back.
"Are you trying to become a regular, samu?" your head tilts slightly whilst you scrunch your eyebrows together. Osamu's face is still as always still lingering with the cold stare unlike the ones that remains in the past.
"I don't know, ya' tell me." He said taking a bite of his cake, the same cake, the same taste just like of what you've baked for him in the past, and every time, he would finish it. All you could do is just sigh and go to another customer. 'I don't know how you can always be here and still take care of your own restaurant.' you mumbled to yourself, oblivious to the fact that your heart is racing slightly faster than usual.
"Yer' cake sucks, you should give them to me for free." you look at him in confusion but then you just smiled, you managed to get out a laugh at him—as long as he was able to make you laugh again, that's all that mattered.
"Alright then Mr. Best Onigiri in Town, then your onigiri sucks I think I deserve a plate for free" you joked back with a smile, you could see a slight grin on his face that made your heart warmer.
The next few days went like a blur. One day, you were opening your shop when your eyes laid on a certain window on the building across from yours. Your heart gave a flutter at first, that's when you realized there was someone—a girl, sitting awfully close to him, and for some odd reason your throat felt clogged, your heart only got heavier when she suddenly kissed him, you couldn't bare to see what happens next so you just went it. 'So that just confirms it.' you thought to yourself as you though that he was playing you. You tried to brush it off but it seems like it's easier said than done.
That same evening as you were walking home after closing your store, the clouds turned dark and drops of water starts forming. You were looking for you umbrella, to your dismay once again you've forgotten it, again. Your coat starts to get wet but the next second you felt as if the rain stopped, and there he was—always there, always ready. Your heart wanted to stop yet its pulsing faster than ever, all you wanted to do at this point was cry, but you couldn't—you didn't want to seem weak, especially not in front of him.
"I don't need it, I'm fine by myself" your response as you start walking away, caring less about the moist that is building up on your coat.
"Woah hold on, what's with the attitude today?" his sentenced dug a deep hole in your chest, as if he doesn't know what he had done. You stopped in your track, you felt your pulse unstable and took a deep breath.
"Why do you think?" you turned back to look at him, you wanted to shout, cry, everything—and there it was, the tears. Every moment you tried to forget, everything you've been piling up from the moment you broke up until now—everything you tried to hide from him is now revealed underneath the dark sky, your only hope is to wish that the falling rain covers all the scars.
"Y/n, wait!" he said it. Your name for the first five years you've been separated, and if you heart had already ached before, it definitely got worse now.
"Why would you want me back when you obviously have someone else? Why would you go so far just to be with someone else. You almost had me, honestly—well played." a sarcastic smile fell on your face. The rain might've hidden your tears but it won't hide your voice crack, it won't hide the obvious pain in your voice.
"Hold on, Y/n, what are ya' talkin' about? Wait—is this about the girl who kissed me?" his confession made you want to leave, move away to a foreign town where there's no possible way you'll ever meet him again. You were about to just leave, you had already turned your body around when you felt a sudden large gentle touch around your wrist, so gentle that you wouldn't have known if he hadn't pulled you back—that's when you realized he had dropped his umbrella just to run to you; his hair is soaked in rain, and despite the rain you could just tell that his eyes are tearing up—Osamu crouched to the ground, you couldn't see his face anymore. Osamu, was kneeling, in front of you.
"What are you doing, you're gonna get all wet—" "Please listen to me, please, baby" the word 'baby' rang in your ears like a melody, your heart began to flutter slightly, if felt like a reminiscence of what you had before.
"She's no one, just a regular! look, I pulled away as soon as I realized. Please, believe me—I need you back, Y/n. I've waited five years in hopes that you'll come back, I'm not gonna mess this up again—please." You wanted to look at him, you wanted to but your heart was aching so bad you couldn't bare the thought, let alone to see him kneeling in front of you, so you just, looked away.
Osamu lifted his head up, still holding on to you hand now wanting to let you go again. His gaze was fixated on you, and you only.
"Y/n" the way his voice called for you was like a hummingbird humming a soft tune, it was the most gentle way anyone could've spoken your name.
"when we broke up, I told myself I wouldn't fall in love with anyone else and that I'd wait and hoped for you to comeback—so when I found out the owner of that new bakery was you, I couldn't stop myself. I- I couldn't stop myself from chasing you again, let me be the one this time, please baby.."
"Samu, we were kids back then—we were immature, we didn't know better. It wasn't going to work out and by the looks of it, I don't think it will, what we had was just something that was meant to be in the past, it was just teens being teens. we need to move on." your eyes finally met his, now you could practically hear glass breaking coming from your heart. When your gaze met his, you bit your lip hard enough to feel pain, but not enough to distract you from your heart and mind.
The next second he got up from the ground, his hand went up to your jawline, but not hard enough to force you to look at him. He leaned in close enough, but not close enough to close the distance between you.
"Then lets move on, start over—Now that we're adults lets make it real and not just something that will pass by. I'll be the one to chase you this time, just give me a chance, I'll contact you often, I- I'll do anything just—please." you could hear the creak in his voice as he's closing the distance between you.
And there it is, the kiss. The kiss that you didn't know you've been waiting five years for; it wasn't sudden or forced—it was slow and gentle, like you both knew it would happen sooner or later, it was planned.
You felt his lips on yours and so did he, none of you cared that both of you were soaking wet. His hands moved from your neck down to your back and waist pulling your body closer, while yours moved to his hair and the back of his neck. The street was empty, it felt like the world belonged to the both of you. You gasped for a while before he kissed you again; the second kiss was more hungry—more rough—like he'd been touch-starved for years, which to be fair he was.
"Guess we could try that." your response to his beg before the kiss, you forehead leaning on his. The moment after a few breaths was awkward, but it was comforting—five years with the feeling of lacking something has finally been answered.
The walk home wasn't quiet it was full of laughter, water spraying at eachother, and finally resolved complications, and even when you haven't arrived at your house, you felt like you're home with him by your side.
extra scene:
Both of you arrived on your apartment, you were fresh out of the shower after cleaning up when you saw Osamu leaning on the counter looking at a picture.
"Hey, isn't this a picture of us when we just started talking" he displayed a picture of you with glasses and when you still had your old haircut, you can tell Osamu enjoy teasing you with your old photos based by the grin on his face.
"Wait, I didn't even know I had that! Put it away omg—it's so embarrassing!" you tried to take it away from his arms but he lift his arms out of you reach; despite you climbing up his chest to get it.
The night was filled with laughter, even if both of you are still childish, it felt like something new, it was something different—it was more in depth, now that you both had learnt to actually communicate.
Both of you ended up falling asleep in the sofa in front of the tv after deciding to watch a movie. Both of you cuddled up with a blanket with your head resting on eachother.
