Hey, I know I'm not around a lot but I'm in kind of a bad situation and I need some help. After losing my job and completely being unable to get new work, I'm desperately trying to support myself and my disabled partner.

I've put out upwards of 300 applications in the last 3 months, I've honestly lost count, and have had one interview despite my efforts and searching in multiple places and industries. I'm just... Not having a good go of it at all. I'm the only income we have right now and unemployment benefits are running out.

I've noted how Ryou's ability to bargain may be what makes him the Spirit's perfect vessel, but let's lean in more. It's not just his talent for striking deals, but also his refusal to be cowed by the Spirit. (Listen, I love pathetic Ryou in fanfics as much as the next person, but canonically speaking, he isn't afraid of the Spirit, only afraid for his friends.) He stands up to the Spirit to protect what matters to him, and so every surrender after that is a choice.

And yet, Ryou remains blemish free. He touches darkness, even rolls around in it, and comes up no worse for it. He admits that he likes the occult and that his favorite game is Monster World, meaning he has been intimately familiar with the instruments that the Spirit uses for shadow games. And still, Ryou is compassionate and light. This shows in how he's never blamed for the dark things that happen around him — his friends just find him too innocent to be culpable. More than any other, this aspect is a huge indicator that he's the perfect vessel.

The Spirit is the avatar of ultimate darkness, of the shadows themselves, and so his vessel would need to be strong enough to not be subsumed by that darkness. In Ryou, he finds incorrigible light and a lack of fear, and those form the boundaries to contain him.
