Okay, that’s a little unflattering, but you know what I mean. Really? You never did that before? Then how does your proverbial son know how to? Apart from the fact that he’s a dog. Hm, that’s a good question, I think we might have to see how it plays out. Perhaps he feels up for some scratches and cuddling, after he dried? A test run, hm? I feel you’d dwarf my kitchen, it’s not as big as yours. But perhaps come here, that way he gets the best of both worlds for a while. I cannot really fault him for coming to visit me. 

I didn’t think it was unflattering. It kind of suits the situation. Well, I have never done it before, but perhaps it’s only because I have never tried. I am sure it’s something all of the Cavills have in our system, we just need to... for a lack of a better expression, let that truffle pig out every now and again, you know? As long as it has an oven, a cooker and some space for me to put a chopping board on, I think I’ll do fine no matter the actual size of the kitchen, really. I used to cook for myself in the trailer while on set, and that’s arguably much smaller than what you have in your house. I shall be there in a little while. I could definitely use a break from all the scripts I’m working with... unless, of course, you wouldn’t mind giving me a hand with practising my lines after lunch?

I swear to you. He was looking really at home and happy, if I had thought for a moment that he was missing I’d have brought him straight back. But yeah, he was looking like a chilled out bear. I think our dogs are of similar minds, only Katie isn’t into the lake but she’ll find any muddy puddle or bog imaginable. I hope that I’m right about his whereabouts, if not, I’ll get a search party together

It sort has! How have you been? Life, as strange as some elements of it are at the moment has been treating me good. Irina and me have found a place of our own which is pretty great. Work-wise, things are in a little of slump, but having a break from the circus is quite refreshing. 

No search party needed. You’ve done enough already. I just messaged Gemma and she confirmed that the bear has been spotted and tracked down. Bless his heart, he missed hanging out with Gem, so I am thinking of just giving him an option of a sleepover at Gemma’s place if both of them want that. I would miss him greatly, but as long as he’s happy, then I’m happy, too. 

Not in these parts, at least. It’s a perk of living in the affluent parts of New England, I think. Why do you think has he done it? Did you not put out the right food? Did you not cuddle him enough? Oh, is that filming again? Or about to? Eh, just be glad you don’t have kids, they’ll try and grab your attention, too. 

So far, nothing. Do you have any news? He can’t just have vanished, big boy that he is. The lake is like a magnet to them, it’s cute, but also… I’m happy I have a laundry room with a dog shower and space to dry them. Well, if he’s attached to her, perhaps you’ll find her there.

I have some news, yes. He’s safe and sound, having a swim in the lake and hanging out in Gem’s backyard. He managed to steal lunch away from her, which is a typical Cavill move, but I’m not sure if I’m proud of him for that or not. I was beginning to think what I have done wrong as an owner that Kal decided to leg it... but from what happened, it seems he just simply missed her company. Which is completely understandable and forgivable. 

So, does that mean that you can do that as well? Like a truffle pig, just with food in general? He went about it the right way, but now I’m out of a lunch. Eh, no trouble - it was just a throwaway comment. So, where should I bring Kal? Once he actually wants to come out of the water. And I still need lunch.

A truffle pig? That’s one way to look at it, I suppose. If I’m hungry, I can be very inventive in finding food for myself to eat... although I never had to go to somebody else’s porch and sniff through their food baskets. The question is would he be willing to go home, even after he comes out of the water? If so, you could drop him off at mine and I could treat you with lunch? I can make a pretty decent Sunday roast. If he’s not willing to go anywhere, I could just grab the things needed and take your kitchen out for a test run.

@rylcavill​ - looks like I found who you were looking for on my porch, having dug into the roast beef I left out under a basket to defrost. You owe me some food, but good news is that you have a very happy dog swimming in the lake right now. 

Well, there’s your answer. He is a true Cavill... meaning he will sniff food out no matter where it’s hidden. Sorry about that. Next time you get your shopping, let me know and I’ll pay the bill. 

Oh? That’s really weird, because I could swear that I saw him sniffing about and looking quite happy around Gemma’s house earlier. You might want to double check with her that he isn’t still there.

Is that so? Somehow I am not very surprised about it. I had a feeling he might be there. The lake calls for him like he’s part fish, I swear. I’ll check with her, see if he needs anything and if he’s happy about it, I might end up letting him have a sleep over if he was so eager to escape to her place for the day. 

I’m pretty sure you could, my dude. And no one would be surprised that you did. Holy shit. Those dogs are fucking huge. I can see why you called him a bear now. I’d love to own a big dog one day. Maybe something like a chow chow or even bigger – a leonberger. That’d be neat.  

They are, aren’t they? All the dogs I’ve had before were absolutely massive. I absolutely love leonbergers, but I never had one. We had a couple of great danes when I was little... oh, and a newfoundland. Fluffy and massive. No surprise my heart gravitated towards Kal when I thought about getting a dog for myself. There’s something about big dogs, you know? It almost makes you feel like you’re not their owner of their pet-parent or anything like that but more like... a friend. There’s no power play but a mutual respect between the two of you, because you know they’d be able to take you down if they’re not happy about something.

Casa Bushvans and the Puppy Café would truly be a first clue to where he could be. The park, perhaps? Or does he prefer the lakeside? What about someone he’d go to, other than Chris and Sophia? Is he that trusting? That’s cute, and a bit of a problem. 

I went up to the ranch, thinking he might buddy-buddying with my horses, but no luck there, either. He is a big fan of the lakeside, so I might try my luck there. I know he’s quite fond of Gemma, and vice versa, so he might have went straight to her house. He is incredibly trusting, which would probably get him into quite a lot of trouble. Thankfully, he’s not usually a troublemaker like this.

I don’t think you would. He was outside in the garden, slipping away can happen. Penny used to do that a lot, and Frankie, too - I’d be scared in LA, since there are coyotes around, and foxes, and other wild dogs who could potentially hurt them. Here? Not so much. Haven’t you paid him enough attention lately? 

Most people who come by might have seen something, or know your dog and bring him round, so that we could ring you up. Hm, what is on your mind?

You’re right, there’s not much danger roaming around... but it’s the first time Kal has done something like that, so I’m just a tad bit nervous, is all. I wish I could say that he was getting all of my attention, but lately I have been quite busy with the new Witcher script and all the conference calls that came along with filming of the new season. 

Please, let me know if anything comes up, yeah? Well, he’s always been a fan of the lake here. I know Jason’s camping out with his family, so their house is off limits, but there’s a small voice at the back of my head saying that he might be at Gemma’s place. 

No, not at all. I get it. We have three dogs, and all are very dear to us. I’d be upset, if one of them was lost. My kids would be upset, my wife… I wouldn’t take either so calmly. Mmm, not sure that there are dognappers, but if, I’m sure Kal would know how to get away. Have you heard from any sightings?

I haven’t heard about him yet, no. He’s not at Casa Bushvans, which was one of my guesses, since we’ve spent quite a bit of time around there together. He may be at the puppy café, I’d have to check. See, you would think that a dog like Kal -- quite honestly a bear -- would be able to fight back any dognappers, but I am pretty sure he’d just wag is fluffy tail and grin ear to ear with his tongue hanging out, because he’s going for a ride. 

I’ve looked in my garden, where our dogs are playing and running around right now, but we didn’t suddenly gain a dog. A fool of yourself? How would you do that?

I’ll call my puppy café and the Fluffy Woof, and ask them to keep an eye out. 

Well, you know... I would be known as the terrible owner who couldn’t keep his dog in check. Him running away, even if it’s just a natural dog instinct to chase after another animal, might say something about me not giving him enough attention or something like that. 

Thank you, Soph. You’re a treasure. Kal and I have visited the puppy café a couple of times, so it wouldn’t be out of ordinary for him to end up there on his journey of discovery. Although, I have a sense of where he might be if it wasn’t a game of chasing down a squirrel and he just actually missed somebody.

I thought you meant an actual bear once – and Superman might be able to tackle bears, but I certainly can’t. I’d be like a toothpick for them to get all the food between their teeth unstuck. If I see any dogs, I’m assuming that’s what he is – roaming around, I’ll be sure to let you know. Although it’d be more helpful if I knew the colour, breed and all of that. Other than just his name.

I don’t think I could tackle a bear either... but I honestly never tried. I never had a reason to tackle any bears, other than my own fluffy fidget, and I would like to keep it that way. Ah, yes, of course. You’ve got a point there. Kal is an American Akita; pretty standard colouring of black and white fur. Has a collar with a name tag on it, too, in case that helps. 

Don’t you think he will come back by himself? He should know where you live… or are you afraid someone will keep him, since he’s such an approachable, loving mutt?

Would it be so awful if I said that I miss him already? In all seriousness, I would like to believe that this town is an exception and nothing bad ever happens here, but I’ve always had an underlying fear about losing Kal (or any of my dogs in the past, actually) to some... less than friendly people. I trust him to return home on his own, but I would at least like to know that he’s safe and fed, since he ran off without any breakfast.

But you admit I’m right, so… look, if you want to have a pat on the back and someone telling you “there, there”, I don’t think I’m that person. I’ve always been outspoken, when it comes to what I think. Perhaps, in your mind, you didn’t consider her as much a friend as a lover… who knows? I don’t think she will, seeing how she was hearing you out and didn’t just ignore you. My ex-husband is a totally different kind of dickhead. You and him are worlds apart. But see, that’s where you’re wrong. Hating you would mean that there’s at least some kind of feeling there. Being indifferent, like I am towards Chad, that’s where you don’t want to end up on the other end. 

I know you’re not that person, Soph... and that is exactly why I came to you. I don’t need somebody telling me what I want to hear; I need somebody who would tell me what I need to hear, and I have yet to meet someone who is more straight-forward with this kind of stuff. It’s not the only reason I admire you (because, let’s face it, your baking is dogs bollocks), but it’s definitely up there on the list. See, you’re right... again. Somebody feeling indifferent towards you might be the coldest feeling in the world. I don’t think I have anyone like that in the circle of people that I know, but I can only imagine how harsh it must feel. I’d take being hated by her over being invisible to her any day.
