The star of Orange is the New Black and Jane the Virgin presents her personal story of the real plight of undocumented immigrants in this country

Diane Guerrero, the television actress from the megahit Orange is the New Black and Jane the Virgin, was just fourteen years old on the day her parents and brother were arrested and deported while she was at school. Born in the U.S., Guerrero was able to remain in the country and continue her education, depending on the kindness of family friends who took her in and helped her build a life and a successful acting career for herself, without the support system of her family.

In the Country We Love is a moving, heartbreaking story of one woman’s extraordinary resilience in the face of the nightmarish struggles of undocumented residents in this country. There are over 11 million undocumented immigrants living in the US, many of whom have citizen children, whose lives here are just as precarious, and whose stories haven’t been told. Written with Michelle Burford, this memoir is a tale of personal triumph that also casts a much-needed light on the fears that haunt the daily existence of families like the author’s and on a system that fails them over and over.

According to a 2012 United Nations survey, more than half of Malawi’s girls are married before the age of 18. In addition, the country is ranked 8th out of 20 countries believed to have the highest child marriage rates in the world. Chief Kachindamoto is changing this one step at a time and has begun by annulling more than 850 child marriages, sending hundreds of young women back to school to continue their education, and by making astonishing strides to abolish cleansing rituals that require young girls to go to sexual initiation camps.

For a really long time we’ve been waiting for an update on investigation of Kendrick Johnson’s death. And here we go - no charges filed , although there are many suspects.

When we first heard the news about this incident, we were really shocked by what happened to this black boy at school. 

First of all there were two official reports in this case. 

The Georgia Bureau of Investigators did an additional autopsy and ruled that Johnson did indeed die due to positional asphyxia. Johnson’s family ordered an independent private autopsy. The results of that autopsy found “unexplained, apparent non-accidental blunt force trauma”.The private pathologist said Johnson had instead died of blunt force trauma to the neck.

One of them stated that Kendrick’s Body was stuffed with papers and rolled up in a gym mat, but when police started investigating the case and found two of Kendrick’s schoolmates as probable suspects, suddenly report has changed. It stated that Kendrick’s death  was an accident. WOW. 

By the way, school’s surveillance video is missing 3 hours (!) of footage right after the moment Kendrick entered the gym.

Interesting Fact: Branden Bell and Brian Bell are sons of an FBI agent.

When the incident happened it had a little coverage on the news. Almost none. And now we have no charges in K. Johnson’s death. 

We need justice. And we won’t stop seeking for it.
