sometimes it still surprised dean how perfectly his life seemed to have turned out, after the countless years of hell ( both literally and metaphorically ), he knew that he deserved it more than just about anybody else. they all did ; he, sammy and cas had spent enough time protecting everybody else, and eventually it was about damn time that they got to look out for themselves instead. if you’d told him years before that one day he’d be happily married, in a stable relationship with the very angel he’d been harboring feelings for for years, with children added into the mix, he wouldn’t have believed them. but here they were, happy and - above all - finally free. “ morning sunshine. ” he greeted his husband from his spot in the dining room. “ you know better than to talk to me until i’ve finished my morning coffee. ” he added, partly joking but also knowing that cas of all people knew the truth behind it ; he’d n ever been a morning person.
castiel beamed as his gaze swept over his husband. years ago, he never could’ve imagined this would be possible. dean hadn’t loved him. of that, he’d been so certain. and yet here they were, married with a family, living together, and greeting each other in the morning in the most domestic way. despite how long it had been since they’d finally had a real conversation about their feelings, it was still hard to believe sometimes. “ i didn’t say anything yet, ” he teased back, then raised his hands in defeat. “ but i believe the phrase is ‘my lips are sealed’. ” he did, indeed, know that dean wasn’t at all a morning person. castiel had always put it down to how little sleep he allowed himself, though that was a conversation he’d lost many times even since they’d first met. “ enjoy your coffee, honey. ”
