Sixpenceee Horror Comic Contest

In this contest you can submit your own mini horror comic. It has to be a creepy and a clever theme. You can use concepts such as the glitch in the matrix, scary stories, cryptids, your own spooky experience, urban legends etc. For inspiration you can check out comics made by deep-dark-fears. Here’s another comic based on an r/nosleep story. And here’s another comic series some tumblr users drew for an ask.

If you follow me on social networks you probably know that we (me and @tekumushi) moved houses from Tokyo, Waseda to near Enoshima. Setting up our work space anew took us some time but I could finally sit at my desk yesterday and start painting again.

The first thing I wanted to do was a sketch of our small studio room at Waseda that we just left. I wanted to draw it only from memory so I had to move fast - before I forget where everything was.

This illustration was inspired by the works of Hayao Miyazaki and especially his watercolour paintings of airplanes, tanks, and fantastic machines where he meticulously marks everything of interest. I love those illustrations even though his writing is intelligible half of the time (even for Kana).

SNSでは書きましたが、奥さん(@tekumushi)と一緒に東京から江ノ島のあたりへ引っ越しました！新しい家と仕事場をセッティングするのに時間かかりましたが、昨日やっと落ち着きました。 ここで最初に描きたかったものは、東京で住んでいた家の仕事場です。参考写真は撮っていなかったので、覚えているうちに早くやらねばと思いました。 このイラストは宮崎駿さんの絵にかなりインスパイアされて描いたものです。今回はアニメではなく、彼の本などで見られる飛行機や戦車の内部を説明した絵を参考にしています。 とても細かくていろんな説明が入ってるけど、たまに字が読めません…走り書きでつぶれてて…笑） でもすごく面白くてこういう絵が好きなので、僕も描いてみました！

Louis Wain was an artist popular for his paintings of cats in the late 1800s and early 1900s. H.G. Wells said that “He has made the cat his own. He invented a cat style, a cat society, a whole cat world. English cats that do not look and live like Louis Wain cats are ashamed of themselves.”

Wain began to exhibit the symptoms of schizophrenia around 1910, and was committed to a mental hospital in 1924.

Make a post with any creepy art that you have. “Art” is defined broadly here. It can be pictures, drawings, costumes, embroideries,…etc. The only criteria is that there must be a creepy/eerie vibe.
