Final picture for @creatingblackcharacters Melanin Beam Challenge! This is Jenny from the Hanna-Barbera animated adaptation of The Halloween Tree (originally a book by Ray Bradbury). This is one that is very near and dear to me (one of those slightly obscure movies you only see when you visit your cousins who live far away... but I finally found it on DVD a few years back~). I'd love to see this story have a modern re-telling, kids love a good Halloween story! Jenny is also a special character, because she was created for the movie; in the book, it is a group of boys who go on a journey through time and across the world to save their friend, while also learning about the origins of certain traditions and the meanings behind their various costumes. The number of kids in the movie was reduced slightly (for time, which I get), and somebody had the idea to add at least ONE girl in here... appreciated, but for a story that is about diversity (though it doesn't always handle it very well), it was still very. white. I know a lot of people who love seeing more Black witch characters (and some who are Black witches~), so here is an often forgotten character who deserves the spot-light! Oh, also; Mr Moundshroud is here (I re-designed him a tiny bit as well, for the heck of it)

my unwoke thought. i dont think all genderbent characters should look exactly the same as their original. it takes a certain wisdom to know when their femininity or masculinity is key to their character regardless of gender, or when the behaviors/traits tied to their gender (or the opposite gender) being important to them is actually is what's at play here. though i do think more people should make genderbent characters look exactly the same if it means there's more muscular women. end post
