“Hey,” she said as Scott entered the loft. She was wearing borrowed clothing; a pair of maroon sweatpants and a baggy Beacon Hills Basketball t-shirt, both relics of Derek’s days as a high school athlete. He’d been very generous in allowing her to crash at the loft since they’d been rescued, as she hadn’t exactly packed an overnight bag when they’d been abducted. There were cuts and bruises on her chest and arms that were still healing, specifically the burn marks, and her jaw still ached a bit from being broken. None of that stopped her from offering Scott a weak grin, the vivacity in her eyes and the color in her cheeks muted.
She was cross-legged on the couch, holding a bottle of water in one hand. With the other, she motioned for him to come sit next to her. “This is the most alone I’ve been in 24 hours,” she responded wryly. “Between Derek and Jackson, Roman being in and out, Talia staying here at night, whoever else showing up during the day… I’ve had plenty of company.” She took a swig of her water. “Not that I don’t want you here,” she clarified. “I’m glad you came.”
Scott nodded and approached her with caution. He hadn’t expected the others to visit so quickly. It only added more weight to his conscience. “I should’ve come sooner, I know. There’s no excuse.” He took a seat where she prompted him to. He noticed that her wounds were still healing. It hadn’t been long since her release, but in order for them to remain, they had to be quite severe.
Scott knew he could help. He held out his hand to her, palm upward. “I can help you heal. If you’ll let me.” If he wanted to be ready to battle the basilisk, he needed his full pack. The weekend was quickly approaching, and the new threats that had been sent out loomed above him, but he couldn’t rush her back into the field. He looked her in the eyes, alpha to beta. He could feel her emotion in the air around them, but that didn’t always hold the full truth. He searched her eyes for a deeper answer.
Kira couldn’t help but giggle at his reply. “I thought of another solution, though. If the basilisk can kill people by looking at them right in the eyes, what would happen if it looked at its own reflection?” she replied. “Lydia told me that she would try to build a mirror, but we’re definitely going to need a really big one.”
“Yeah... I didn’t say anything to Lydia because I didn’t want to sound crazy, but what if we make a mirror maze, like at those theme parks, and we trapped the basilisk in it?” With Kira, Scott felt comfortable enough to spit ball ideas at her, no matter how silly they sounded.
Talia grunted as she tried to keep her grip, but she ended up letting go and stepping back a couple of steps. Before she let her guard down, she quickly kicked Scott’s side hard.
Scott ignored the pain that rose in his side. He calmed himself down, trying to focus on using his ears and nose. Once he’d located where she was, he threw a feign jab followed by a hook of his claws.
“Do you know where he lives?” Lydia asked, wondering if Scott had ever talked to his fellow lacrosse player before. “Because we can go to his house but other than that, I don’t want him to leave and we miss him.” She began leading the way through the halls towards the exit door. The banshee wasn’t really that scared about going to speak with Dylan again, especially now that she had Scott with her. She trusted him with her life. “Just so you know, I totally won that fight.” Lydia added sarcastically, a quiet laugh escaping her lips afterwards.
“I don’t. Since the whole werewolf thing turned into a day and night job, I haven’t been in touch with the team as much. Liam might know, but that’s a long shot.” Scott didn’t know if going to the house would be any better. If the boy’s parents didn’t know about his condition, they could just be making things worse for an innocent man. “Don’t worry, if anyone is notorious for losing fights, it’s me.”

“Er..” Anya’s eyebrows furrow together as she shrugs. ”Y-y-yes, I do suppose zhat you can say I am more of a dog person.”
“I always knew I could read people. Now I have proof.” His teasing had taken away some of the awkward tension that originally ensued, but he knew that wasn’t what she really meant.

What had been just a few hours of class had felt like days to the Alpha. Late in the night, news had reached the rest of his pack. The missing members had been freed, but not without cost and damages. Scott knew that Derek could handle himself, both mentally and physically, but it wasn’t Derek that worried him. Malia was younger and more vulnerable. Derek had overcome the haunting presence of his past for the most part, but Scott knew Malia hadn’t mastered hers in the same manner.
The first sign of trouble came when she didn’t come to school that day. He didn’t really expect her to, but Malia had a resilience that Scott hoped would overpower whatever horror she’d experienced. The circumstances had played against him in assisting the rescue effort. He deeply regretted failing to help his friend, his pack. He’d failed in his duties as the Alpha. One of his own had been taken and it was through the work of others that the were returned. He couldn’t dwell on this failure, but he could seek forgiveness.
Scott had guessed that she would go to the Loft. It seemed to be the go to place for many people, despite Derek’s frequent protests. He smelled her and felt her emotions long before his eyes fell upon his beta. “I hope you didn’t plan on being alone up here. I’m sorry I wasn’t there.” He didn’t know what else to say. He kept his distance. There was no mountain ash barrier, and yet something held him back. Perhaps it was guilt.
Jackson laughed in Scott’s face, “Yeah like you would actually ever get behind the wheel of my Porsche. I’d have to be dying or some shit for that to happen. Even then I wouldn’t want any blood on my seats either so..”
“Fair enough. So, did you just feel like ruining my day, or do you actually want something other than to gloat?” Scott knew Jackson wasn’t being as egotistical as usual, but you never knew when he would spring back.
With the way things were between them, normally Theo wouldn’t have come up to Scott like this. The thing was, him and his pack still had something he wanted. To get it, he already knew it wasn’t going be easy no matter what he did, and out of his options, this way seemed the least likely for things to become a problem for him. “Oh, I can’t promise you this will be kept brief, but I think you won’t mind here,” he said while confidently leaning against the locker next to Scott’s.
“I’m already beginning to mind, so get to your point.” Scott couldn’t very well threaten Theo here in the middle of school, but he could refuse to play Theo’s games. A quick glance around the hall showed that the Chimera was alone. His pack was no where in sight, for now at least. “So what is it then? You want my lunch money?”
Talia quickly dodged Scott’s attack, then grabbed his arm and flipped him around so she had him in a headlock. She knew he was way stronger than her, so her grip probably wasn’t gonna last very long.
Scott didn’t want to have to use his alpha strength, but he was being forced to. He dug his hands under her grip, trying not to claw both of them to shreds in the process. He tested her grip, not forcing any movement, but slowly applying more and force to break her lock on his neck.

Kira perked up slightly upon hearing Scott agree. “Great!” she replied with a cheeky grin. “That sounds like a good idea.” Now she was really looking forward to spending more time with her alpha, and she was glad that they could be productive at the same time as well. “The other day, Lydia told me the one of the basilisk’s weaknesses is a weasel, but I kinda feel like that solution is too simple…” she mused.
“Maybe we’re just over-thinking the basilisk. If someone tossed a weasel at me, I’d be pretty scared.” Scott was only teasing, but he cocked his head slightly, finding some truth in his own playful words. “Who knows? Maybe the solution is right in front of us and we just can’t see it.”
“Like hell I’m letting you go alone.” Lydia had seen firsthand just how dangerous the omega could be and that meant she didn’t want Scott to be by himself in a potentially harmful situation. There was no way she’d ever let anyone she cared about be by themselves. “Besides, I had to fight him off to save Nate and he’s actually kind of afraid of me right now. We can use that to our advantage.” Lydia added. He might be more likely to talk if he was intimidated. “Come on, I bet we can find him in the parking lot before he leaves for school.”
That’s a very public place for a confrontation, but if you’re confident, then let’s do it.” Scott was happy to have Lydia along, but he didn’t feel the same urgency that she expressed about the Omega. Everything Scott knew about Omegas pointed toward them being the least dangerous of werewolves, but he’d been beaten down by one or two of them before. “If he was bold enough to fight you before, then he’s a threat we’ll have to deal with at some point anyway.”
eyebrows raise with the news, now out of the school building. ‘ they’re gone ? ’ fingers run through his hair as they approach his car. ‘ so, what ? was it people ? more supernatural things? is this related to the basilisk ? ’ he takes a breath, halting his questions — he’s the sheriff. he’s the one supposed to have the answers, regardless of the impossible situation he finds himself in. ‘ is it safe to send some of my men to look for them ? ’
A few seconds passed by as the alpha mentally rehearsed what to respond. “I think it’s best that you stay focused on the basilisk. We don’t know the details yet, but we will find them.” Scott knew that the Sheriff’s job was frequently threatened by his connection to the pack. “Beacon Hills needs to keep their focus on the monster.”
“N-Not what I meant, but er, it’s worse vhen you are very shy..and don’t like people too much.” She makes a face and looks down.
“So.. you’re like a dog person?” Scott didn’t want to assume the supernatural answer, but the hints were falling like snow now.

Talia walked over to Scott and helped him tie the cloth tightly, to ensure it didn’t fall off. Before wasting anymore time, she interrupted him and punched him hard in the nose. “Don’t let your guard down, Scott.” She didn’t particularly like hurting Scott of all people, but if he wanted to really train to fight with his eyes closed, she couldn’t hold back. And neither could he. “Don’t worry about hurting me, I can take it.”
“Hitting me in the nose, smart. Now all I smell is my own blood.” His voice was muffled as the blow had filled his nasal cavity with blood. He took a moment to recover, his eyes turning red under the blindfold and his hair growing rapidly. “Likewise.” Scott lashed out as fast as he could in the direction he’d been struck from.
“Did I not just say that he almost killed me and Nate Sinclair? I talked to him twice.” Lydia shook her head, not sure what Scott was hoping to accomplish by speaking with the omega. Lydia was definitely a lot more intimidating by nature and she couldn’t get anything out of him. But Scott was in charge, and she’d do whatever he thought was best. “He swears that he didn’t see anything. Was just hanging around by the rocks. And I don’t need to describe what he looks like. I know exactly who he is. His name is Dylan, one of the lacrosse players on the team.’
“I can hear his heartbeat. I’ll know if he tries to lie.” Scott knew Lydia only wanted what was best. She seemed rattled from the encounter and he was reluctant to rush her back into another one. “If you don’t want to go, I won’t force you. I’m not doubting you either, Lydia. I just.. I need to see for myself.” He hoped she would understand. Despite his leadership, Scott couldn’t force Lydia to do anything.
