The multiple temper lines and hamon are created in a single piece of HR1095 through a unique claying formula and process developed over years and then brought out with hybrid hand polishing techniques based largely on work of the Japanese masters. Another failed experiment, and lessons learned. Yes, I'm up at 4am. This Little Bastard is at the heart of a detailed experiment which included a new etching formula designed to work very slowly, getting up every 2.5 hours to inspect and work the surface 3,000 grit. The issue was the reaction to H2O and the accumulation of iron oxides.
