What messed up Pousseys death for me is the fact the Oitnb tried to adress two main issues at once.

I can’t shake off the feeling that the writers tried to combine the problems of racism and guard violence with criticism towards the privatisation of prisons in the US. So now we have Poussey being killed by a guard, which honestly would be still terrible but at least it would perfectly show that guard violence and racism are the issues addressed, BUT in order to consider the privatisation issue as well the guard needed to be poorly trained, innocent till made guilty by the private Company who owns the prison, puppy Dog Bayley.

And that’s exactly where oitnb gets problematic because now what happened to Poussey is nothing but AN ACCIDENT while in the “real world” poc being killed by guards is very rarely a bloody accident and rather cold blooded murder.
