JUST because Zuko had a redemption arc and Katara FORGAVE HIM and they HUGGED TENDERLY and bonded over their respective trauma and had copious amounts of romantic chemistry and are mistaken for a couple multiple times in the show and she touched his lips softly and the climax of both their stories was sacrificing themselves for each other and they’re actually really similar in personality but also complement each other like yin and yang, a parallel the show literally goes out of its way to make, doesn’t mean you should ship them, what’s important is that Zuko was once a bad guy and that’s bad because he turned good, I mean that’s good because he’s not bad anymore but it’s still bad because he was once bad, or something, so, uh, definitely don’t think about Zuko tying Katara to a tree and saying she’s a big girl now and Katara saying give Zuko a kiss for me, or them sleeping together on Appa or going on a journey together to avenge Katara’s mother’s death, nickelodeon owes me millions of dollars in damages for the sinful thoughts it implanted in my head. I apologize to the world for shipping zutara.
Hello Choices fandom! It’s been a while since I’ve posted anything (maybe even literally months? years even?) but I had a little blurb that I thought I’d share with you. This is a short, angsty one shot for Luke Harper and my MC from Desire & Decorum, Countess Catalina de Leon. Catalina has chosen Mr. Sinclaire as her fiancé, but does she still have feelings for the handsome, honest, and trustworthy Sir Luke Harper? This is rated T for some sexuality. Enjoy and thank you!
“It is my privilege to present Countess Catalina and Mr. Sinclaire!”
Sir Luke Harper watches as the woman he loves enters the room with her fiancé. As he sees her lips part for a dazzling smile, he can’t help but think of her soft, full mouth on his, her hands gripping his lapels, the feel of the boning of her corset beneath his fingers as he grips her trim waist...
“Good evening, Sir Luke.”
With a start, Luke breaks from his reverie and finds himself staring into the deep brown eyes of Countess Catalina de Leon. He bows to her with a slight incline of his head.
“Countess,” he says, and he can’t help when his eyes sweep over her form. Luke averts his gaze but he can’t help a small smile.
“What is it?” Catalina inquires.
Luke hesitates, then relents.
“You look beautiful.”
Her cheeks flush at his compliment.
“Sir Luke, you are too kind.” Her eyes sweep the ballroom, alighting on the rest of her guests at the engagement party and seeing them occupied, she steps closer. He can smell her scent, slightly floral with notes of vanilla.
“I must speak with you about something...privately,” she says, her voice low. Luke leans closer, but then remembers himself. He steps back.
“I cannot imagine what you would need me for, my lady,” he says, and his voice is colder than he had intended. She gives him a look of understanding, but she is not quick enough to hide the pain that flashes across her face. Catalina looks up at Luke from beneath downturned lashes.
“My apologies, Sir Luke, if my behavior as of late has caused you any discomfort. Whatever it is, I wish to make it right.”
Luke sighs.
“Nay, it is I who must ask forgiveness from you, my lady. I am a guest in your house and you have been nothing but hospitable to me. I am at your disposal,” he replies.
“You are no mere guest, Sir Luke. You are dear to me, a dear friend, and I do wish to discuss with you something, but not here.”
“What about your fiancé? Would he approve of this…discussion?”
“It does not concern him.”
“Who does it concern?”
“Us.”
With a deep sigh, Luke answers resolutely, “There is no us.” Catalina looks around warily.
“As I said, I do not wish to discuss this here. Please meet me tonight by the lake…you know where.”
“I can make no promises, my lady.”
“I understand. I will be there at midnight.”
Hurriedly, Catalina resumes the appropriate distance from him, and curtsies. Before Luke can incline his head in return, she is gone in a sweep of silken skirts.
At midnight, Luke stares at the full moon glowing overhead from outside of the stables. He watches as a silhouette leaves Edgewater Estate in a dark cloak and hurries to the edge of the lake. Gripping the doorpost, he shakes his head. After a moment, he strides towards the lake.
As he approaches, he can see the outline of Catalina’s figure. Even from a distance he recognizes the demure curve of her neck, her shoulders pulled back like a dancer’s.
“Countess,” he says upon arrival, and she turns to him. Her face bathed in moonlight reminds him of when they had shared their first kiss and it causes him such agony that he nearly leaves without another word. Seeming to notice, Catalina holds out her hand to touch his arm, a familiar gesture that she thinks better of, and instead drops her hand back to her side.
“Luke, thank you for coming…”
“What is it you that you wished to speak to me about?”
“We never had the chance to talk after…”
“After you got engaged?”
“Yes.”
“If you wish me to give my heartfelt congratulations, you have it. Mr. Sinclaire is a good man; I am certain you two shall be very happy together.”
“Thank you, but that is not quite what I came to you about.”
“I do not know what else there is to say.”
“I love you!” Catalina exclaims suddenly. Her eyes widen when she realizes what she says, and she puts a hand to her lips in horror.
“Forgive me, Sir Luke, I really should not have…I cannot imagine what came over me…”
“Damn it, Catalina!” Luke says before he can help himself. “What is it you are trying to do?”
“I am so sorry, I should not have come…” she says, her eyes darting to and fro.
“Stop apologizing, please, Catalina, I beg you.”
“I do not want to hurt you, Luke, I promise…”
“But you have, Catalina, you have! I have been wounded in war, betrayed, lost, ridiculed, shamed for my heritage. But all that amounts to nothing when I see the woman I love on the arm of another man! It causes me untold pain.”
Her eyes swimming with tears, Catalina cries, “I know, I know…”
“Then why? Why did you choose him? Why not me? Is it because I am of African descent?”
“Heavens, no, Luke! I have no care for that. But I, I cannot help it, I love Ernest.”
“But you just said you love me.”
“I love both of you!” Catalina says, her face now streaming with tears.
Luke curses. “Catalina, I could never let you go willingly. But I thought if you had ceased to love me…it was better off if I hid my feelings…”
“I tried, Luke, I tried, I did. But I couldn’t stop…”
And with that, they reach for each other. Her lips move fervently against his, and he wraps his arms around her, one hand buried in her hair, the other encircled around her waist.
He wants her. All of her, he can feel it deep in his loins. Her tongue dances alongside his and he can barely think. He never thought he would be able to kiss her again. And yet he cannot shake the feeling that they are doing something illicit…
“Catalina…Catalina…” he says against her mouth, “We musn’t.”
“Luke…take me now…please.”
“We cannot, not here, my love. Someone will see us.”
“I care not.”
He pulls away from her and holds her by the shoulders.
“Catalina, you know I love you. But what about Mr. Sinclaire? You are engaged. We cannot do this.”
“I have no idea what to do, Luke.”
He sighs.
“Nor I. I do not want to be the cause of infidelity. It goes against my character.”
“It’s what I love about you, Luke. You are a good man, one of the best.”
“I have too much respect for Mr. Sinclaire to go behind his back wooing his fiancée.”
“I make my own choices,” Catalina says.
“Yes, and you made a promise to him. You chose him.”
“I do. I do choose him. But I am not his yet.”
“What are you saying, Catalina?”
“I want one last night with you.”
“Catalina…”
“Please.”
He meets her eyes in the moonlight.
“As you wish.”
They ride into the night, to an open field away from prying eyes. He unlaces her corset and she is bare before him. A fire deep inside of him builds and builds as he tastes her mouth, his hands holding every inch of her skin that he can reach. He buries himself inside her, a hoarse moan escapes his mouth when he hears her whimper of pleasure.
“Catalina…” he says and she grazes her teeth along the throbbing vein of his throat.
She cries out as he plunges deeper into her, faster and faster. She wraps her legs around his waist and her fingernails rake down his back as his thrusts pick up in rhythm.
“Luke!”
He sees tears in her eyes as he makes love to her, they hold onto each other as if for dear life.
