It goes from hyping someone up to tearing them down overnight. There’s this tendency to treat creators like they have to be perfect all the time, and the second they make a poorly thought out joke, everything blows up like it defines their entire character.

Yes, people are allowed to feel uncomfortable, especially with jokes that imply something sensitive, but context and intent still matter. You can acknowledge something wasn’t the best choice without turning it into a massive outrage.

But people start digging, pulling up things from years ago like it’s evidence in a case that never closes. As if time, growth, and self-reflection don’t exist. As if a mistake made years back should outweigh everything someone has done since.

It’s not accountability at that point...it’s fixation. People change. They learn. They grow out of mindsets they once had, regardless of age. Ignoring that doesn’t make you morally superior, it just means you’re more interested in holding onto outrage than recognizing progress.
