ruhi grew up as the youngest of three to an affluent family of real estate developers in wilmington. she was always doted on and had a magnetic personality that could charm even the toughest of people. growing up, she was surrounded by friends but the constant attention quickly made ruhi conscious. she felt the need to be perfect at all times. this tendency was exacerbated by her foray into pageants from a young age. and though she did not particularly enjoy the shows after the first few wins, she was a natural and it did not make sense to stop. this naturally grew into a career into modeling and though she graduated college in new york with a hospitality degree, she focused all her energy in modeling. ruhi met the man she thought would be the love of her life at twenty-two. four years together and they split up when he cheated. she left modeling and fell back on her degree and started working in hospitality for a few years before deciding to pivot into event planning. from there, she specialized in weddings and moved back from new york to wilmington to build her business here.
IN THE WEEDS . . .
A bundle of joy as the youngest of three, Ruhika grew up as pampered as a child could get. This came both by virtue of being the youngest and being her parentsâ only daughter. As a result, every single person in the house doted on her and she grew up seeing nothing but love and adoration. This translated into a vivacious personality, and a knack for drawing people to her from a very young age. To this day, she will recount one time in kindergarten when she was asked to divvy up her time with everyone in class to avoid kids feeling ignored and left out. Almost like a scheduled playtime, it was an odd occurrence, and yet it set the stage for what would characterize many of her relationships moving through life. Structured and manufactured, almost like she did not have autonomy over the decisions to make in her life. Ruhi never complained, but for a while she did hold a chip on her shoulder that where everyone else was allowed to pick and choose, she was not. And the whole time, to avoid making enemies or coming across a certain way, she was forced to smile and act as though nothing bothered her.
This talent and personality landed her in the spotlight on stages in the local beauty pageants. Her mother did not know much about the competitions and didnât think that her daughter would make it too far. It was only at the suggestion of a teacher that she entered Ruhi, but she was a natural. She was meant to be before people and had enough charisma to charm. But it also meant that once again, the mask was up. Once again, she wore plastic smiles and was judged on the basis of traits that she did not feel fully encompassed her. Like a doll on display, she continued to excel at pageant after pageant. And for the most part, Ruhi didnât complain. Her parents kept her in thinking she enjoyed it. She continued thinking it was what was expected of her. Yet as the trophies stacked up in their house, the emotional burden of being in the spotlight and striving for perfection at all turns started to weigh on her. Yet Ruhi, unwilling to disappoint the people who had invested so much time and money in her success, continued to plaster on a fake smile for the world. Â
While there was no more scheduling of her playtime, Ruhi did find it hard to make close friends at school. It was a self-fulfilling prophecy in a way. She thought she had to be perfect, so she wore a mask. And in turn, the people around her who were drawn to her outgoing nature and manicured personality quickly pegged her as âfakeâ behind her back. She left her hometown of Wilmington for the Big Apple, a city where she was certain she could reinvent herself. Yet once there, she again fell into a familiar pattern and the crutch of her put on personality as she was thrust into the modeling industry by the same people that had successfully helped her accumulate a number of titles throughout her childhood. If the world of pageants was difficult, this was another beast all together.
She met the man that she thought would be the last love of her life after a shoot one day. It was clichĂŠ to meet in a dimly lit bar around the holiday time. While Ruhi had family waiting for her, she opted to stay in the city for that Christmas, knowing that the strain on her heart would show in her eyes if she returned. And like that, she found her comfort in a man that she felt safe around. One who did not only love her for the personality she wore for the world but was willing to look beyond and accept the flaws sheâd spent so long hiding from others. And maybe seeking validation and acceptance in a relationship was her first mistake.
A few years later, as her career was on the brink of taking off, she was faced with the reality of her relationship when she found her boyfriend in bed with one of the women that she worked with. Her world crumbled and that was indication she needed that years later, it was time for her to finally leave the world that had never been hers to begin with. The negative reinforcement stunted this personal growth much too soon and she reverted right back into her old ways after her first serious heartbreak. Because maybe the only side of her that people could love was the one that she projected, not the full person that she was. Ironically, it was her ability to wear a smile through everything and talk her way out of anything that landed Ruhi in hospitality. And soon after, wedding planning. Because it was much easier to manage other peopleâs stress and build their perfect day than it was to showcase her own. She worked outside of Wilmington for a few years, but it made sense for her business to move back home where she knew more people and could tap into her extensive social network.

Cooper had a little bit of time before he had to head into work. The Detective always loved to go running in the morning whenever he could and today was supposed to be beautiful out. It's fall and the weather has been crisp, freezing in the morning but gorgeous in the afternoon and that's how Cooper loved it. He was ready to go, ready to get running but the man stood there for a moment and took a deep breath then scoffed "You know what?" Cooper "Fuck it. I don't need to run this morning, I just need to sit here and take a minute. I mean look at this view? It's beautiful really, with all the changes of fall." Shrugging his shoulders, Cooper smiled softly and realized he sounded like an idiot but the man didn't care. Cooper stood there and took in the view before running off to put the bad guys away.
With the various changes in her own life and trying deal with the fall out with her family after they learned of her separation, things were not nearly as peaceful as she might have otherwise liked. For Ruhi who had gotten so used to Wilmington being her safe space, the place that she had run away to, it was strange to not feel like she had that support system that she came seeking. Her cousin had left, her parents were upset, and it truly felt as though her life was once again spiraling in a way she hadnât anticipated when she first suggested the fake marriage. Nonetheless, as she tried to physically run from her problems, pausing to catch her breath, the strangerâs words directed her attention to her surroundings. âYouâre right,â she began, taking a moment to fully appreciate the view. âI didnât even realize how quickly the seasons began to change. And all of a sudden the year is almost over.â While beautiful to see, it was also a reminder of how quickly the time was passing. The year nearly coming to a close. Â / @hawkinscoopers
her question threw him off. how did his family feel about his decision not to follow the family business? they weren't stoked, that's for sure. "they keep hoping that i'll change my mind. i told them not to hold their breath. i've never been into all that diamond and jewelry stuff. so, i'm hoping that they'll just understand and come back around. who knows? i do like what i'm doing though. i feel like it's what i'm supposed to be doing."
Ruhi nodded in understanding, having never felt that particular pressure from her parents. âIâm sure my brothers must have felt a similar way. They ended up in the business, but Iâm not sure if they ever wanted to do something else and felt they couldnât. But youâre clearly doing well for yourself, and hopefully that is enough for them to become more accepting of the choice.â She felt truly lucky that the pressure she felt was only with respect to this little arrangement between her and Ben right now. âThough Iâll say,â she gave him a small smile as a way to lighten the conversation. After all, they were really just here to pass the time. âWorking with diamonds sounds like an absolute dream to me.â / @benjicho
Standing on the beachâher surfboard planted in the sandâAri smiled at Ruhi's comment. "That's part of the charm," she quipped, a chuckle spilling free. "You can't expect to become a surfing pro without a few wipeouts. Besides, I think the ocean look suits you." She glanced at the drenched form before her, and honestly, she thought her friend looked great. Hot even. "Come on, let's give it another go," she encouraged, picking up her board. "I promise, once you catch that first wave, you'll forget all about your hair. And if not, well, there's always the option of becoming a professional mermaid instead."
âPart of the charm?â Ruhi asked with a laugh, running her hand through her hair to try and manage it before she tried her hand at the sport again. She was doing her best to get out there and try her hand at things that she might not otherwise have done. âI feel like I was swallowed whole and the waves are not nearly as fun when they are crashing over you as when they are gently lapping at your feet.â Despite her seeming complaints, her voice was cheerful enough. Which was why when Ari encouraged her to try again she nodded. âProfessional mermaid sounds much more up my alley, but Iâll try one more time. But repeat those beginner tips again. I feel like I need to hear them a few times over before getting back out there.â / @ariyacl
"Don't tell the med spas I did," she murmured with a quick wink of her eye. "It could go either way, really, it truly depends on the ingredients in there and your skin type. Some acids don't mix well on dry skin, whereas those same acids will make someone with oily skin glow." An eyebrow raised at the mixture set in front of herâNicole was never one very accustomed to a poker face. "Well, let's not get ahead of ourselves here before we know whatâsâin here, I guess? You know what, since it's your home recipe, you go ahead and do the honors. I'll supervise."
Dragging her fingers across her pursed lips, Ruhi gave the other a broad smile with a nod. âI wonât tell a soul, donât worry.â As the other got far more technical in the descriptions of what could suit the skin and what wouldnât, Ruhi actually found herself keeping up only because she had spoken to a number of professionals in the past about this. Prior to deciding to retire from the modeling industry that was. Now she relied on her own self remedies to keep up, finding it more of a soothing way to relax than a requirement of her profession. âThatâs true, I had to go through so many different treatments before I found the right one for myself. I nearly had a breakdown once after my entire face broke out before I realized that was actually all those toxins being purged.â Doing the honors as Nicole requested, Ruhi took the unappealing goop and began to slather it across her cheeks. âYou know, not many have seen me look this ridiculous. My routines are usually my own, so I wonât force you to try this, but I feel like you have to put something on. I canât be the only one looking scary.â Â / @nicolemcrtin

Was it unreasonable to now hate the simple concept of a wedding? To be fair, at this point, she was pretty positive that she could die happy if she never heard of such a thing again once this year ended. She found herself arguing with her mother in Spanish. How long? She didn't know, but considering the looks she was getting from those around them once she decided the fight was over, told her it had been long enough. Just as if God heard her wish before she could think it, there's a knock at the door. "Gracias a Dios." She muttered as she took it above herself to answer the door. Whatever relief she might have felt seemed to elevate when she saw Ruhi. "Ruhi -- good to see you again." She greeted, doing her best to keep her tone light and airy. She stepped out of the way and held her arm out for the girl to enter, "It's your turn to deal with this new wedding disaster." She told the woman as she closed the door behind her. "I'm going to get a glass of wine, you want one?"
It was certainly a strange moment for her when she realized that she would be planning the wedding for Camilaâs mother. That said, she quickly learned that there would be far more awkward moments, including being intimately introduced to the loud and strong personalities in the brunetteâs family. One where Ruhi felt that they never hesitated to make their opinion known, in the most straightforward way possible. The elevated voices could be heard through the door, and it was because they stopped that she knew that someone was coming to fetch her. As the front door opened, she realized that Camila being relieved to see her of all people spoke volumes to the condition of the argument she must have been having with her mother. âDisaster?â Ruhi begin, keeping her calm but of course immediately curious to know what could be going wrong now. There were a series of changes that were constantly being made and in a way this was one of the harder weddings sheâd had to plan. âUm, Iâm okay. Why donât I get the glass while you fill me in on whatâs going on.â She offered, familiar with the house that sheâd visited on numerous occasions at this point. / @camilamoreno
"Lava is all natural, doesn't mean I want to put it on my face." Jessica mused, corner of their lips tugging up in a smile. Because she knew that wasn't actually comparable, but she couldn't help making the joke all the same. However, when Ruhi insisted it was tasty, Jess shook their head. "I am absolutely not tasting that. But I'll let you smear in on my face." With minimal complaining. A shrug when the other offered to go first. "I don't mind. You can do me if you want." After all, Jess regularly got grease smudges on their face, so this couldn't be more problematic than that. @ruhixmarathe
âActually you know,â Ruhi began, perhaps knowing a little too much about the subject and missing Jessicaâs point entirely. âThere are lava face masks that are really good for your skin. Itâs all natural and very effective. Say the word and Iâll pull some out.â Her arsenal of skin care truly was packed with anything and everything under the sun. Her time as a model had exposed her to a variety of products, and to this day she still enjoyed splurging on anything new that hit the market. Grateful that the other gave in, she gestured for her to lay back. âClose your eyes and just relax. Itâll feel great to be pampered.â / @jessica-nichxls
LT was a master of many trades. Most who knew him knew he was the most into the paranormal, but he wasnât dumb. He knew he needed âregularâ jobs. None of them really fulfilled him quite like ghost hunting, but it did what it could. The job that came the closest to enjoyment was dog walking. It was an odd job, sure. But he loved animals, especially dogs, and getting them out with him while he did his run, was just killing two birds with one stone.Â
Today, he had only one dog with him. A Husky named Lola. She pattered alongside him, sniffing every corner and inch of ground as LT strolled around the streets of Carriage Falls. He hadnât expected to really see anyone he knew. He didnât often have friends from Carriage Falls. But that didnât stop him from making nice with the community nonetheless.Â
As he turned the corner, his phone would go off, distracting him, as he pulled it out of his pocket and noticed it was his dad. Panic shot through him as he stared at the name, but before he could answer, heâd collide with someone. His attention being replaced by them.Â
âOh shit â Iâm..â He began but immediately paused as his eyes took in who he had just collided into. There was a sinking feeling in his gut, an unease, as the woman he knew so many years ago was now standing before him.Â
He stood staring at her, his eyes unblinking as he took in her features. She was older, more mature, but she still brought up the same emotions he had experienced way back when. Lola was now sniffing her leg, wagging her tail, excited to see a friendly stranger.Â
The fact his father had called vanished from his mind as he tried to fix his impression. Licking his lips, he pressed them together and nodded, âRuhi.â He greeted back, âI guess we both have that going for us.â He shifted his weight from foot to foot as he shoved his phone back into his pocket. âYou live around here?â He twirled a finger in the air, indicating Carriage Falls, âOr just visiting?â He couldnât help but hope it was the latter.
Since returning to Wilmington, she had run into a number of people from her past. Almost to the point where it felt impossible not to. In part because she was always out and about. In part because the town felt like it had gotten smaller than she remembered. Perhaps after a stint in New York, anything would feel intimate. Yet the one person whose path sheâd never crossed was Leighton. A fleeting romance. A youthful escapade. There were many names that she could give him. But the reality was that he occupied one of the most special places in her life. A first love. A taste at unyielding, uninhibited emotion. For a woman used to holding back, LT had been the key that unlocked her self-imposed cage.
Had she thought of him over the years? Certainly when she first moved to New York. He had been on her mind constantly. The desire to text him, only to realize she couldnât stung. Before her first love, he was a close friend. Her safest confidante. She lost both in one fell swoop, shackled to expectations of society, parental pressure, and her own inaction. The memory, as most, faded with time. Every so often something would remind her of him. A wash of nostalgia, just as transient as their place in each othersâ lives, would sometimes catch her off guard. Perhaps when she realized the man she thought would be her last love was nothing more than her next heartbreak, her mind wandered back to the man whose heart sheâd broken.
Caught off guard, she couldnât help but feel self conscious. Sheâd always been comfortable around him, yet after all these years, there was still a part of her that would have preferred they encounter each other when she was more put together. Not when she was just returning from a workout, hair pulled into a loose ponytail, with none of the frills of her usual attire and persona. He broke the silence first, cutting through her trivial and insignificant inner monologue. âJust visiting my parents,â she began to explain. It was no wonder her and LT never crossed paths. Their worlds had always been apart. The reason that they hadnât stayed together. âIâm living in Masonboro now.â Which was when the ring on her finger felt heavier. âYou. . .donât live here, right?â Ruhi questioned, almost as though an answer in the affirmative would disappoint her. After all, she once liked him specifically because he was so distinct from everything she knew. / @ltjames
A bubble of laughter escaped at the comment about not being a regular. Laylaâs eyes crinkled with amusement as she nodded, understanding all too well. "Well, Ruhi, it's nice to meet you too. And I completely get itâthe temptation to become a regular here is real. I've had to limit my visits myself," she admitted, her smile a bit sheepish. Glancing back at the menu, she mulled over her options. "I'm thinking maybe I'll go for the strawberry cheesecake flavor. It's not my usual, but it sounds pretty good right now. How about you?" As she spoke, the tension on her shoulders began to ease. There was something about this woman that made her feel at ease.
âA kindred spirit, how grateful I am to have bumped into you today.â Otherwise her day was filled with brides who were dieting for their big day, leaving her to wonder if she ought to be more mindful of her penchant for sweet treats. Picky as she may be when it came to food, she did not discriminate when it came to her desserts. âThat sounds like the best of all worlds. Cheesecake, ice cream.â Scanning the menu, she looked over at Layla and shrugged. âIâm feeling adventurous,â which was not something Ruhi said often. âEnough to let a near stranger pick for me. What do you say? Want help me step out of my comfort zone too?â Otherwise, Ruhi would just as easily settle for the safest option. / @laylcsaxena
the man couldn't help but laugh at her words, "but i, of course, had to test it out before i bought it. if it weren't so big then i would've gotten the same one for my office at work. though, i'm afraid my clients may fall asleep if i did have one of those things in there." he got the two of them some glasses down and smiled to himself, "well, if you must know, i've managed to get myself a girlfriend. what about you? what have you been up to?"
Here she was, prattling on about skin care and furniture. And here Pearce was, getting himself a whole girlfriend. Her eyes widened, not in surprise but excitement, lips curving into a bright smile. âIf I didnât ask, when did you plan to reveal this little development?â One would say that for the woman who herself didnât believe much in relationships, she found a way to be surrounded by many happy couples. Both professionally and now personally. âWell, tell me everything. Start to finish, no detail spared.â / @pearcecallahan

benji liked to build up business connections but he wasn't sure that meant that he wanted to build a connection with someone's family that his parents had been trying to hook him up with. if he were being honest, he rather avoid that all together but who knew? maybe her dad would ignore him all the way around and go straight for axel. that wasn't something he'd hate. that's for sure. "axel is great." he agreed, though as she spoke, he wondered if she would do better on a date with him. not that this was anything real. the two of them were only doing this to get their parents of their backs. "i guess i just wanted to do something different. i was never really into the family business and my best friend wanted a business parter anyways."
Ruhi nodded along, surprised to have discovered the shared connection. Though it should not have been that unexpected. Not only because her father likely already knew this detail, but also because sheâd learned that the upper echelons typically traveled in the same circles. They were all bound to overlap at one point or another. As he explained what had prompted him to work with his best friend, Ruhi listened intently. After all, he was someone that seemed to have broken the mold of what was expected of him. In ways she never did. âAnd you like what youâre doing? How does your family feel about you not going into the family business?â Presumably he still had some ties to them seeing as they were sitting across from each other precisely because of their parentsâ insistence. / @benjicho
Mayoral Balls. Dress codes. Not exactly something that a surfer girl was particularly invested in, but alas, for the sake of taking part, and indulging in the company of others, she did just that. Rocked up, formal attire included, and immediately found herself with a drink in hand. "I can't be the only one who feels like they're out of place, right?" The brunette muttered, a light hearted smile present upon her features as she shrugged the matter off. "Fancy reassuring me that I don't stick out like a sore thumb?" From being uncomfortable, that is.
Giving Noa a once over, Ruhi shook her head with a reassuring smile. âYou look stunning,â she praised genuinely. Attending events like this was her bread and butter. Her whole life had been in the spotlight, dressed up and looking pretty. So while she could not relate, at the same time, Ruhi was sympathetic to the discomfort. âI know what you mean though. Sometimes these events can get a little stuffy.â She knew most of the people here, but holding up appearances could get exhausting too. âBut this is meant for the people of the town, so you belong here as much as the rest.â / @noadeleon
Kimberly was all for self care, but home remedies were a bit of a hit or miss especially when there was a chance of it going south and affecting your body instantly. Therefore, as she observed Ruhi from making a homemade face pack, the heiress tilted her head slightly and asked, âA week? Sounds too good to be true. Whatâs in it?â Holding both her hands up as if she was not guilty, she then added, âAww Ruhi, no judgment here...Just fear that it may not react well to my skin. Have you always been doing homemade skincare like this?"
âOh god,â Ruhi began as she put the bowl down at the realization. âI should have asked if you are allergic to anything before tossing everything in here.â Her own skin was a little sensitive so she could understand the other womanâs reservations when it came to trying the home-made remedy. âIt is a clay mask I picked up when I was up in New York. Iâve never had any bad reactions to it, but everyoneâs skin is different.â Handing the packet over to her friend, she let her read through the list herself. âIf not this, I have a ton of other skin care, so just say the word and Iâll find something else for you.â / @kmadrigalsoto
Nikhil had honestly not expected the house coming as a gift from the Marathe family but he wasn't going to be turning it down. The nice thing about being in a marriage of convenience with someone from a similar culture meant that he understood the unspoken words. Like if heâd refused this gift which was not only a gift but also a form of acceptance from Ruhi's father--things would be going south very quickly for them. Noâhe knew how to navigate these relationships quite well and would do it for as long as he needed to--perhaps even after. He'd been making himself a drink in the kitchen when he'd heard the beeping of the door signalling a new entrant. He waited for Ruhi to make her way to the kitchen and was smiling when she came around the corner. âHey there, I didn't know you were coming back tonight.â He grinned before raising a brow at her words, eager to tease her regarding that statement about thinking about him when she held up her finger to tell him to hold on. "Thinking about your husband...how scandalous." He told her with a casual wink.
It was amusing how many little quirks he'd noticed about her in the time they'd been friends and how he was finding out new things whenever they were around the house during the same time. Not to mention--he'd needed to be observant if he had any chance of passing his green card interview. âHmmâhonestly it depends. I was here a bit more before the World Cup started, but then with how badly we playedâI'm home for a bit. The MLC is starting up soon though. They have some games in Texas this year and some in South Carolina." He paused before taking a sip of his own drink, âIâd love it if you could come to some of them in South Carolina? Show a little supportâit'll probably help our case.â Honestly speaking, Nikhil hated feeling like he was taking advantage of her but this was their situation and now they were definitely both in it until it was seen to completion.Â
Ruhi wasnât really sure what came over her when she proposed getting married. Maybe it was driven in part by the fact that her parents kept insisting on setting her up with someone or another. And rather than continuously say no to prospects, or lead on a guy when she had no intention of marrying them, it was easier to marry someone who had no expectations out of the marriage. Nothing more than help with securing status in the country. Nikhil was a dear friend and maybe she had been spurned on by the combination of irritation towards her family, empathy towards her friendâs situation, and a crazy bout of rebelliousness. All in all, they found themselves quickly married and then facing the Marathe family who had more issues with the way the marriage happened than the choice itself. The house they were still in the process of fully furnishing came as the first indication that her father had accepted the union, though Ruhi had yet to consider what they would say when Nikhil and her inevitably divorced.
âI couldnât stay on that ranch for longer. I changed my flight to come back earlier because I was melting in the heat.â With an easy smile, she laughed at the teasing. âIf only people knew just how scandalous I am. Theyâd have a heart attack.â Especially given that no one was more of a rule follower than Ruhi. Hence why the decision was even more shocking to her, but at this point, she knew it was for a good reason. âIt wasnât that bad. . .â she began, though she had watched and based on the commentary of those around her who followed the sport more closely, maybe it hadnât been the best either. When he asked for her company at his matches, she agreed readily. âOf course, you just need to tell me the time and place and Iâll be there. Not just for our case, Nik. Also because before I became your lawfully wedded wife, I was and am still your friend.â Washing the glass almost immediately, she continued as she began to rummage through the pantry for something to eat. âI donât know what baba was thinking giving us this place. Weâre two people and this house is fit for. . .â she paused and turned to him with a humorous expression given the first comparison that came to mine. âa cricket team.â Fishing out kale chips, she leaned against the door. âAnd with our schedules, weâre barely even using it.â / @nikhilxkohli
Kashvi had first met Ruhika back in London when the other's father had signed Kashvi for some marketing assistance with one of their many businesses. It had luckily been quite a fruitful experience resulting in Kashvi finding more exposure in other markets she hadn't quite tapped into yet. Of course this was a couple years back and since then--the two girls would keep in touch, random messages here and there and just catch up sessions. When Kashvi realized that Layla and Pearce's new place of residence was also where her friend was from, she hadn't wasted any time in reaching out and so the two of them were currently at Ruhi's residence for a relaxing day of skin care and chatting.
"I--have tried various masks but I've never put on one that looked..like that," Kashvi said making a face before she shook her head. "Sorry I don't think in good conscience I can put this on my face. I'll let you test it on my neck but that's it." She said, holding up her hands. Her own mother had various homemade concoctions to help Kashvi with her skincare issues during her pesky teenage years but they'd almost always never worked on her so she was a skeptic of the first kind.
Her family had always traveled a lot, so when she was asked to zip around the world for work, both as a model and now as a wedding planner, Ruhi found ways to make a trip out of it. While Kashvi hadnât been someone she met on her own, the introduction through her father had been a blessing. Anytime she found herself in the London, she made a point to see Kashvi, who always knew how to show her a good time. Especially because during her modeling days, she appreciated getting away from the others she was surrounded by. Now, with her friend in her neck of the woods, Ruhi felt guilty for not taking her out and actually showing her a good time, but her body was not working with her that day. It desperately needed a break.
Ruhi gave the concoction a once over before looking back towards Kashvi. âYouâre telling me Miss Adventurous herself is scared of a face mask?â Granted what Kashvi said was good practice. It was always better to test on another part first, which was why Ruhi assented. âFine, but donât say I didnât warn you when one patch of your neck is brighter and glowier than the rest.â Rubbing a bit onto her hand to show her it was okay, Ruhi continued. âAloe, coffee, potato juice, a little bit of haldi.â / @kashvisaxena

Obviously it had caught everyone by surprise when she showed up with a marriage certificate and a husband when sheâd insisted that she wasnât interested in either marriage or dating at the moment. Which was still very much true. Her last experience with love had burned her enough that she was not looking for a reason to get her heartbroken again. She didnât need more reminders that she wasnât enough, that people could only love who she projected herself to be, not the person she was deep down. Ruhi couldnât even say she knew who that person was anymore. But for the world, she was now a married woman who absolutely adored her husband. An act that would require her lying to everyone in her family, Mahi included. Pressing her palms together, she waited for her cousin to show up, going over the same story in her mind that sheâd told her parents.
Axel sat at the bar in Tric, his fingers tightly gripping a glass of whiskeyâhis third of the night. He had never felt more like a complete idiot for thinking his plans would remain hidden forever. Shivani had found out, and now everything was falling apart. Still, a part of him seethed at her invasion of his privacy. Who gave her the right to snoop around his personal affairs? He took a long swig of his drink, grimacing at the burn. The person next to him must have noticed his foul mood because theyâd kept their mouth shut. Good. He didnât want small talk anyway. "You know what really grinds my gears? People who can't mind their own damn business," he spat bitterlyâmostly to himselfâhis words slightly slurred.
Ruhi might have otherwise gone to Soundwave, making sure to always support Mahiâs business over the other establishments. But that night she was looking for something a little less. . . happening. TRIC, while generally crowded, was still just a bar, not a club. And it was the familiar face that caught her eye when she entered that helped solidify that she made the right decision. Sliding into the seat beside him, the slurred words and tirade to no one in particular revealed that he was clearly very drunk. And apparently really pissed too. âTell me about,â she began, both a turn of phrase and a genuine invitation for him to elaborate. âToo many nosy people in this world who love gossip.â She turned to look at Axel with a small smile, not sure if he would welcome the company or shoo her away given his current condition. / @axelhughes
