"— What the hell?" She whispered, exhausted eyes squinting down at the tablet in her hands. Having not slept for nearly three days, Rhiannon was running on autopilot, on the unsaid understanding that did she not fulfill her responsibilities, there would be punishment. As far as her fathers knew, it was business as usual. That was, until, she'd finally noticed everyone else in her math class discussing their marks. The latest grades had been released. "Zero?" She murmured to nobody, dumbstruck. Surely, there had been a mistake. But the comment attached left no room for misinterpretation. And unfortunately for him, the very same teacher who'd written the comment suddenly entered the classroom, greeting them good morning.
After weeks of simmering, it was as if Rhiannon had finally reached boiling point. Rage consumed her and lifted her to her feet, commanding her like a puppet on a string, the chair she'd been sitting on tipping over. She was entirely overcome, all actions no longer her own, the reality of spirit's taxing nature going unshared tipping the scales. "Zero?!" Rhiannon cried out, darkened eyes meeting Troyan's from across the classroom. "I hand one assignment in late, and you give me fucking ZERO?!" The room was silent, deafeningly so, nobody sure what they were supposed to do when the quietest girl in the room suddenly lost her mind. But it seemed spirit had a plan, for it carried her right up to his desk, tablet still clenched in her hand, and looked him in the eye. "Fuck you," she growled, and then spirit led her out into the hallway, muttering obscenities and shaking her head.
She knew she'd submitted the work late, Rhi misplacing hours of time ever since she'd resurrected Marina. But she'd still ultimately handed something in, and done some pretty good work, too. It wasn't fair and it didn't make sense. And if she couldn't explain it, how could her parents ever understand? Fear joined the dangerous swirl of emotions, Rhiannon realising they'd inevitably find out about this. Suddenly, she screamed, turning and hurling the tablet with all her might against a set of lockers.
