Something that I really wish had been commented more upon in the books is the geographical boundaries of the Wizarding World, as they are clearly very different from the Muggle World. Neville says his Mimbulus Mimbletonia came from Assyria, a kingdom that hasn’t existed for over 2500 years! I wonder what other kingdoms and empires and regions still exist in the Wizarding World (and by extension, which modern day countries are different or non-existent).

Stephen King’s On Writing is a book about his craft from a personal point of view - and contains a really amazing principle I knew would change my Marketing copy forever.

In his book, King mentions choosing an Ideal Reader - the one perfect person who will be reading your work. In his case, it was his wife. King wrote his novels around her perceived reactions. He knew exactly what would surprise her, excite her, bore her. He wrote every line and edited every word extensively to that end.

King’s tactic was successful because he knew his wife intimately. Marketers, in the same way, need to know their demographic with the same enthusiasm.

Do you know what makes your demographics shy away from a purchase? Or what makes them engage with your content? Writing and editing your work towards that one person’s perceived reactions will completely change the way you write your campaigns.

this here is what pisses me off about tumblr! Sure, there are people in the world who talk like that, and sure a lot of those people might be men, but is the over-generalisation really needed? I am a girl and this is actually how I talk to my boyfriend a lot of the time. Perhaps instead of making out that all men can’t help acting in this sexist way we should approach these situations individually. Everyone stand up a little at a time and say, ‘hold on, I actually know what you’re talking about, you don’t need to make assumptions about my knowledge just because I’m a woman, if that’s what you are doing. And I will not make assumptions about you being sexist/discriminatory just because you’re a man, but we will both treat each other like we are human and acknowledge that neither one of us is perfect but we can damn well try our best to recognise the mistakes we make and improve upon them.’
