This makes me irrationally upset. First off, yes some of their songs are about these topics, but it’s not done for shock value. Till’s lyrics are much more poetic and meaningful than this post would lead one to believe. But the post makes it seem like their songs are only ever about the things on the list and nothing else. They have so many songs about other ideas and songs with positive and beautiful messages and imagery. A more accurate thing to say would be “Rammstein songs cover some controversial topics, but are also about love, heartbreak, death, romance, personal struggles, etc.

Bonus direct message to the person who made this, whoever they are: You included “homosexuality” along with things like rape and pedophilia. I don’t care that you said it “used to be controversial,” you’re still equating it with other things on the list. Don’t fucking put it in this list because there’s nothing wrong with a song about homosexuality and there’s nothing wrong with being gay. So fuck you for including it and bye because I’m gonna go jam to Mann Gegen Mann.

This is probably an overreaction, but I feel like letting out some passionate emotions, so whatever.

People have accused them of ‘contributing’ the Columbine massacre because both Eric and Dylan were fans of them and one of their songs ‘ Weisses Fleisch’ where the opening line translates to “ You, in the schoolyard I am ready to kill”… Rammstein has never preached violence, yes some of their lyrics contain violent material but it’s part of the story that they are telling through the song. Heck that same song, Weisses Fleisch, has helped a girl speak about her rape, because she felt as if Till understood her and was speaking for her.

“Stein um Stein” is another good example—it’s sung from the perspective of an abuser, but as someone who was abused, it’s a really powerful song for me because it is the only song that I’ve ever heard on the subject that actually captured the helplessness and isolation that you feel in that situation. It very much feels like a song that only someone who has been abused (as Till and Richard sadly both have been) could write.

Yesterday I reblogged a quote that said ‘’Art is meant to provoke, not to educate.” The aim of the band using some controversial topics in their lyrics has never been to condone violence, but it raises awareness to painful issues. Not to mention Rammstein had on several occasions discerned themselves from the Columbine highschool shootings tho some nasty people still keep on connecting Rammstein songs to real life murderers when they have absolutely nothing to do with it. People need to learn the difference between song lyrics and actual real life tragedies.

I actually saw this image at knowyourmeme.com, and I thought it was funny that everyone basically answered, “well, yeah, who doesn’t know that.”

Evidently whoever made this is not a fan, and is taking the lyrics literally and at face value. Yes, some of the lyrics are definitely unpalatable (I just read Laichzeit’s… 🤢) but that come from a place of exploring the darkness in humans.

Art is not supposed to be always pretty and flowery; it makes you feel and reflect. Someone seeing Picasso’s Guernica will not think Picasso was condoning or promoting war. But some people tend to have a lot of prejudices towards artists deviating from traditional forms of art.

Also, yes, grouping homosexuality with bestiality, pedophilia and necrophilia???? Speaks volumes about whoever made this.

Angst is a denunciation of xenophobia, racism and isolation of our society. To hate others is to hate yourself. The fear of the other, of the stranger is constantly fueled by the media, by certain political parties, by ignorance. This fear turns into violence, and some take up arms, supposedly to protect themselves, but to protect themselves from whom ? From children, women and men who leave their country because death awaits them there ? From people who don't have the same skin color, not the same religion, not the same culture ? These intolerant and violent people are blind, because the society they advocate is set to self-destruct

I am totally obsessing about this photo. Granted, it is not 100 % sure that it was taken by Erik Hackenschmidt, but, it is from the red-haired Mutter era, and it looks visually in style with the portraits of Oliver Riedel and Flake Lorenz from the Gert Hof photo book.
