TEAM THE WICKED + THE DIVINE SCHEDULE NYCC 2014
Jamie McKelvie, Matt Wilson and Kieron Gillen will be attending the New York Comic Con from October 9th-12th. They will be doing “things” when they’re there. They’re on panels. They’re doing signings. They’re manning their fine table, K10 in artist’s alley, in the North Pavillion.
(Expect “we’re the neighbours of robot dogs gags”, which only old Doctor Who fans will get.)
Kieron has compiled this list of where we are and how you can find us, if you want to come and say hello, etc. It’s quite long, so you’ll find it beneath the cut.

Today's haul:
Black Widow #11, Batwoman, Captain America #25 (Sam Wilson aka Falcon taking over as Captain America), Guardians 3000 #1, Bucky: Winter Soldier #1, Death of Wolverine #1 and lastly Thor #1. Add some old school Incredible Hulk 222-225 and Captain Marvel #18.
Thor #1 has many people upset, because Thor is no longer worthy to wield Mjolnir, and a female is seen picking up the hammer in the last panels. I think Jason Aaron had the best response to anyone who has a concern. In the letters section in the back, a die-hard Thor fan lays into how disappointed he is, how his "perception of a particular creator (I.E., you) shifted so quickly and negatively." The writer of the letter continued to blast him for everything he has done to his beloved character. Mind you, this letter was written in advance of this gentleman even reading the new book, with female Thor. He ended his rant by concluding his letter with "... Now, you have me seriously considering leaving comics altogether. Sure, we're talking about a fictional character here. I get that. But I've invested years of reading time and gobs of money on merchandise tied to this one character. This is an important pastime of mine and now Thor and everything else Asgard may be soon behind me. What a bummer." Reminders: 1) Thor is still actively participating in his heroics in Asgard and elsewhere. 2) This guy is ranting about something he hasn't even read or been exposed to other than the rants on the internet until today, 10/1, when this was released. 3) As much as a "die-hard" fan he claims to be, he seems to have sold out the person who has been writing his "favorite" book/character for the past few years.
Jason Aaron, the writer, had the best response I could've ever read. He compared it to the past stories of Mjolnir being wielded by multiple characters, first it was Stan Lee/Jack Kirby with Journey Into Mystery #83, Thor's first appearance. He continued with Walter Simonson's great cover and introduction of one of my favorite characters, Beta Ray Bill. Then later Eric Masterson took over as Thor for a bit. Don't get your doodle in a knot because a woman is deemed more worthy.
TL; DR - Mjolnir is about transforming a regular, normal character into something greater. Thor still exists. Jason Aaron shouldn't have to deal with as much criticisms about writing a female character to wield the hammer as he is been given. Beta Ray Bill is a great character.
PS - Captain Marvel #18 is when Yon-Rogg blasts Captain Marvel and Carol Danvers, later we discover this is how she gains her Kree powers.
PSS - I wish comic books were still 15¢, but that was in 1968
She-Hulk… You’ve come to join the West Coast Avengers?
amazing
So Tony (my dad, yes he is my biological father, long story, think Atticus Finch) and I will be attending NYCC.. and I couldn't be more excited. He and I in the Big Apple, jaunting around for 4 days. I figured that I would put something together, if I had the slim chance to run into the DeFraction clan. You're definitely missing out if you're not reading: CaptMarvel, PrettyDeadly, SexCrims, Hawkeye (tear), etc. Both of them have revitalized two characters from Marvel that (I think) are amazing and the top books currently printed/offered from Marvel. The writing and art will just pull you in as you read.
- Point being, I thought I would offer a mini-gift, because I don't want to cart a real-size cornhole board around NYC. So I made tabletop versions!... you can use quarters or something. Having returned to reading comics on regular basis, just as these books came out, it gave a nice kick start to my book reading
I thought of doing a SexCrims one and just leaving it all white.. but eh.
I hope I'm not breaking any laws by making these.. (Sorry Marvel)

A few years ago my father and I decided to put together some cornhole boards. We built them, but I couldn't decide on how I wanted to finish them.
- This summer, I uncovered the boards from the shed and decided to paint them. Since she appeared, I've really enjoyed reading the Captain Marvel books since Carol became the Captain. I've always been a fan of Carol Danvers and her history. What KSD has done has given the character a great update/modern look for her as a superhero.
- I've been a fan of the Hulk since I can remember, so that's why that board is more.. rugged(?) looking. I added more detail and gave him an outline around his head. I sewed the bags and all. I was quite impressed with my latent sewing ability.
When I get bored with the usual or want to procrastinate I tend to pick up random hobbies. I'm working on something now that I a) plan to take to NYCC & b) hope people don't think is weird. Anyway.. hopefully I will finish it up later today. I should have taken more pictures of the process rather than the end product, oh well.
Giving this whole Tumblr thing a try.. I'm late to the game.
I figured I would use the before and after pictures for a test run.
