Maybe not exactly like this, but if someone isn't for you, the signs will be there. Your life will become tremendously more difficult. Things will cease to align for you and you'll notice that you begin to lose parts of yourself that you worked hard to develop. Hobbies, skills, healthy habits will begin to fall away slowly.

The emphasis on this is slowly. In the beginning of interacting with this person our group of people, everything will seem normal. You'll feel yourself. All of what you have worked for will be present. But bit by bit, you wil notice that they will begin to consume you. Little by little, you start missing out on your routines.

Success doesn't always have to be complex, big, or flashy.

Take up space. Live your life.

Be confident.

I know that each of these things can be easier said than done when you have been through the trauma of emotional unpredictability/abuse, and walking on eggshells.

The people who cause you to feel this way are the problematic ones. They are the ones who should be apologizing. Not you.
