The RPG Maker community has recently discovered that one of the most popular MV tilesets, the “Asteria’s Expansion” by Kaus, is actually comprised of stolen artworks from both hobby artists and commercial games. Kaus was also known for an “Ultimate Overlay Plugin”. He is now known for theft and banned from RPG Maker forums. 

Origins of stolen artwork include DeviantArt, the commercial game Ni no Kuni, and from the RPG Maker community itself.

The Asteria Expansion Tileset included sets such as “Bayer Town”, “Bayer Ruins”, and “Port Town”. All Asteria Tilesets contain “Kaus” in the name. 

This expansion set was used with stolen art, and was sold commercially. If you are using this commercially, it is illegal, just as it was illegal to create and distribute the tileset using stolen assets for money. Contacting Kaus may result in returned money, as several users have already reported. RPG Maker is not responsible for issuing refunds, but if Kaus does not refund your purchase, explaining the situation to PayPal or whichever system was used to purchase the assets may help get your money back. There is currently a call for Kaus to return the profits. 

Please cease use non-commercially as well to respect the artists affected. 

To double check whether or not the tilesets you have are stolen (aside from having “Kaus” in the name), search the RPG Maker forum for the original thread where they were found. If the topic is most certainly nowhere to be found, it is because it was deleted. Additionally, check in with Celianna here. 

If you are uncomfortable with using the Kaus Overlay Plugin, Hudell has graciously created an alternative called Orange Overlay.

Time to seek out a different alternative, and probably really fast. Many different sources, including the original founder, are reporting that Megaupload’s successor is treading water for a number of reasons and could go down at any time.

You can now rotate pictures counterclockwise with negative values through the picture rotation command.

Fixed a faceset! 

Fixed some loop info in the default music. 

And just for ease of use, the top left tile in the “B” tileset will always have the star passability. If you have ever wondered why your custom tileset was not working, this is usually the issue - but it never will be again!
